Confidence isn't any kind of guarantee of not making a hash of it. When Brucie arrived he immediately announced he was after Clemence's place. Super confident. Then he got the chance and spent much of that first season giving everyone terrifying frights with his bizarre decisions. So great that Karius is confident but I still wouldn't just throw him on in a big game like this.

Is it that big a game though, really?

If it was in April for a CL place then yes of course don't disrupt things, but it's so early in the season now that there's much less pressure on.

I think it'll come down to how firm he is on Karius being number one. If he bought him to start then nothing from Ming so far this season will have changed that view so he should go straight in.

I would imagine so as he will be standing directly in front of the goal ...
That's a possibility, even though i suppose he will be standing in their way.

In all seriousness though, Ming shouldn't be starting this one if Karius is match fit. Prior to the excellent saves against Leicester at the weekend , i think all the shots on target have led to goals.

This is usually the time when we lose too many games and set up yet another miserable season, so, yes, I'd say it's a big game for us. Karius isn't some kind of star keeper. People hate Mignolet so much they'd welcome Lassie as a replacement, but for me it's typical fan rashness. Play Karius in the league cup, let him prove how fabulous he is, then make him first choice.

Karius should play if he's fit. Keeeping Ming in coz he hasn't had the opportunity to fuck something up yet is madness. It'll happen eventually, the bloke's a fuckin sweat.

If Ming was playing well you'd keep him in the line up, but he's been average. We shouldnt reward mediocrity.
I don't see why this is even a discussion.. his shot stopping isn't good enough to make up for his weaknesses. He doesn't seem to get anywhere near 80% of shots he faces.. his stats are bizarre as he doesn't save very much at all..

Is it luck, poor positioning , slow reactions or are the opposition simply to good at finishing?

Quite. I really don't get the "it's early in the season, so it's not important" outlook. Every game is massive, especially because it's our main focus with no Europe.

Karius has to start against Derby mid week, but it's likely that Ming will resume normal duties on the weekend isn't it?

If Karius keeps a clean sheet and looks assured against Derby I'd say that'll be that and he's our new No1.

Doubt it.

I'd say short of a an absolute disaster of a performance he'll get the number one slot the following match.

I think Klopp (rightly imo), just wants to be completely sure the lad is recovered from his injury fully before putting him for a league match.

Despite my reservations about Karius starting yesterday, Ming was clearly our weak link throughout. That ball he played to Matip was ridiculous, no wonder Klopp was going nuts. He had Lovren and Milner to his left, completely unmarked, with Matip infront of him with two Chelsea players on his back, so he plays it to Matip. He's not only poor technically, his decision making is fucking woeful.

These next two games are the perfect opportunity to blood Karius.

I'm not a big Mignolet detractor but I'm not his biggest fan either.
I think he's done well these past few games, I really don't think he's done anything to warrant a bench role atm.

FUCK THIS.

Replace him now!

You could c&p the guardiola 'I need a sweeper' argument onto our keeper situation.yesterday highlighted that well, his distribution was poor and quite frankly he puts the shitters into everyone when he plays it short when under pressure

I have no problem with Ming staying in the team right now.
Hes been very good in every game so far.

Some of his kicking and general distribution last night was appalling, and sent Klopp into paroxysms of fury

He's getting dropped very soon

Yeah, a good percentage of the nervy moments last night were as a direct result of Ming's distribution.
