Midfielders other than Bellingham

Woy will probably drop him in favour of an extra grizzled journeyman centre back…especially if they have a tricky cup tie at home to a league two side or something.

The problem is to take free kicks and corners you have to be on the field for the other minutes, too. Shame. Otherwise, I would agree.

JWP is one of the least injured players in the league. He would walk into our midfield at the moment.

He would be a good replacement for Milner, albeit an expensive one.

A player like Ward-Prowse could theoretically be a useful squad member for any top team - he is not any less talented than Hendo and equally hard-working, his playing qualities are not the issue. My big concern with him though is that midfielders of a similar profile who moved to big clubs for the first time in their mid to late 20’s often find it difficult - as the likes of Danny Drinkwater, Kalvin Phillips and Marcel Sabitzer can attest. Hendo had the advantage of moving to LFC early enough in his career to overcome the inevitable 1-2 season long downturn in form and confidence - for an older player that would be simply not possible, you either hit the ground running or your new big club moves on without you.

For this reason, I think a better bet for us would be someone like Dominik Szoboszlai - like JWP a superb free-kick taker, but at 22 he has a lot more room to develop. He now mostly plays on the right wing at Leipzig, but in time can probably be molded into a proper CM.

Szoboszlai would be an interesting signing... but also an expensive and significant one, no?

JWP falls into the cheap squad player bracket (though not sure what he'd think about that) so very different proposition.

I think I'd like us to sign Szoboszlai just so I can call him "Superfly".

If Southampton go down, he ain't staying nor are they keeping him. It's a case if there is a clause in his contract that will allow him to leave relatively cheaply, I'll be all up for it.
As I say do a swap deal, they get CJ plus a few mill cash and we get JWP.
100m of our budget is on Bellingham, not sure what remains after that.

Curtis Jones isn’t going anywhere because there has been zero interest in him and he’s just not that good.
Yes, there is we just have to try harder. Southampton are going down they'll need Championship level players, and you won't get any better than CJ at that level. Here is £5m plus CJ, and give us JWP.
CJ will win the Championship Player of the 2023/2024, mark my words

He’s fucking shite. When he leaves us he will drop down the divisions and hang his boots up at 31. We will have a thread about him in ten years time titled whatever happened to CJ.

Not sure what you mean, take a look at @King Binny 's post.
I think we all agree JWP on a reasonable fee reflecting his age would be welcomed. This the way I am looking at it, you' re only allowed 17 non home grown players and the rest of a 25 man squad has to be homegrown. Now when you have players like CJ, Hendo and Milner in MF, and you can only look at homegrown options you're not left with huge abundance of choice.
Other than Jude, we have his brother, Gallagher, Matt O'Reilly and Alex Scott player's I would call moneyball signings. Then you have Mount and Rice as the other two who would cost £60m plus. Olise would be a brilliant signing but I doubt he would go for less than £55m

Would be worth signing just so we do not have to suffer TAA shots on goal from free kicks

No we won't, we would have forgotten about him. Do we ever ask "whatever happened to Diomede?" or "whatever happened to (not so speedy)Gonzales"? He leaves us we will forget he even played for us, that's what i am trying to pray for
