Midfielders other than Bellingham

There are a lot of rumours around Liverpool tapping up Ugarte which would explain that prem proven nonsense right after the links to him.
If its true then Ward fucked up but there are other players out there eg Yusuf Fofana, Salis Abdullah Samed, Koopenmieners, Barella etc... @binomial can tell you how good Salis Abdullah Samed is

Infuriating statement, which again shows something totally rotten on the recruitment side of things at the club.

Spent 2 years waiting for Bellingham.

Finally abandoned Bellingham for the sake of completing more realistic signings quickly.

Now those realistic signings are also in danger? What in the actual fuck are we upto?

Not sure why everyone is taking this as a Negative.

Insisting on quick signings means we back out at the first sign of a bidding war. No Bellingham, no Mount, no Caicedo, no Thuram, no Inacio, no Gravenberch, no Ugarte, no Barella. I've always found it infuriating that we back off at the first sign of a protracted transfer. It's the reason Real Madrid have a clear run at Bellingham for 89m. Because we pulled out. No point tapping up players like a hooker on speed then turn away whenever the player hesitates, like we always do.

If we're a serious club, we need to stay in the game. If we really need players in on Day Now, then let's sign JWP. He'll join tomorrow.

Any “reason/excuse" that will keep repeating is our failure to qualify for CL, resulting to loss of income.

So Neil a Jones says we want only “prem proven.” He then goes on to say we want Ryan Gravenberch. So can someone tell me how the fuck is Gravenberch Prem Proven? Or is it all just speculative shite?

because he was fed that story right after the Ugarte links and we wanted to play down any interest

Some thoughts:
We will understand the financial impact of being in the Europa as opposed to CL. We'll have known that all through the planning stage.
Historically, we've tried to do our business early - feels like it's been a long time since there was any deadline day excitement at the club, and we've tended to do our January business early (e.g. VvD and Gakpo were both signed the second the window opened).
So if we're delaying doing our business then the likely causes are:
  1. The club is disorganised with the Ward / Schmadke handover.
  2. One or more players we're targeting are in no rush to sign (either because they want a break after a long, hard season, or they're hoping for another offer from a CL club).
  3. We need to sell to fund our proposed business and we've decided, for a change, to sell first (meaning the outgoing player(s) or their prospective buyers will be holding up the transfer merry-go-round). If it is this, it's a smart move in a business sense because we've often failed in the past to get players out of the door, or to get the fees we wanted.
  4. On the optimistic side, we're expecting an influx of cash and won't be doing anything until that is done and we know how much we have to play with (not holding out much hope on that one to be honest).
The first 3 points don't reflect well on our planning, but do remember that the window doesn't open until 1 July so, whilst we do usually agree deals ahead of that date which are then rubber-stamped, a lot of other clubs don't.
It's also the case, typically, that a lot of the people needed to get a deal done go off on holiday the second the PL season is done, so they wouldn't be working full-on for a couple of weeks anyway.

Before that we spent the entire spring and first half of the transfer window chasing Tchouameni. Our transfer strategy is now chasing the same players which Man United, Chelsea, Madrid, City want with 25% of the budget and feel sorry for ourselves when it does not come off. Attach ourselves to some dumb ideals like "right" midfielder and act holier than thou and comment on other clubs such as Chelsea's transfers. Yes, Chelsea have screwed up by spending a lot of money. But atleast they tried. We have screwed up even more by not spending anything. Let us stop commenting on the way others do business and start to fix ours. We were an Allison goal away from missing out on the CL and learned nothing from that season.

Typically the reason we could do deals on Day 1 was because (a) we moved fast and were the most attractive option for the player (e.g. Diaz) (b) we had spent all of the previous season tapping him up (VVD), or (c) we moved really fast for a player no one expected us to go for (Gakpo)

(b) doesn't always work for obvious reasons, and (a) and (c) only work for targets that aren't super super attractive. If we want to dine at the top table then we need to be willing to spend, and overspend at times, and to sign players for whom we aren't necessarily "1st choice" or who aren't "best value" or our "1st choice".

The transfer window in England opens on the 14th of June. There will be a lot of deals that will be confirmed after Sunday and when this years league season is over imho.

I think a lot of people overestimate the importance of the lack of Champions league football for one season in regards to the players we want to sign and their desire to play for us.

Honestly at this point suggesting signing Adama Traore should be a banning offence.

I’m all about Adama Traore - he’s a no brainer and just the sort of Moneyball signing we need.

He’s both world class and a generational talent - and the only man fit to even contemplate lacing the boots of Ryan Fraser!!!

We’d be able to fund the transfer directly with the money from additional baby oil sponsorship.

I’m not, I do genuinely think we were after him. My belief is that we are only interested in players with set fees because we hate bidding against anyone and we made a big song and dance about mostly only being interested in players with PL experience after being linked with Ugarte.

Plus i ate 15 jaffa cakes yesterday which is Ugartes shirt number…

Now the min fee has been sprung - there’s nothing to stop us bidding - and if we’ve tapped him up, we’ve surely discussed a few and at the very least Sporting can’t cry about us tapping him up anymore.

If we were really interested - we would have just paid the fee and done it quickly and quietly.

That reads to me like players that we thought we had over the line and in the bag are now weighing up their options.
Probably as a consequence of us not getting Champions League next season

This… absolutely this.

I’d add that we probably had one budget that factors in CL money and one budget that doesn’t.

If we had a fully functioning recruitment team - then it, to an extent, shouldn’t matter.

Prem proven.. tick..

It was also reported that we were trying to get him for beneath his buyout clause, i think there was 3rd party ownership that was bought out and the belief was they’d sell a bit lower after that was dealt with.

It has also been rumoured that sporting refuse to deal with us now post tapping and might make some complaints.

So yea probably nonsense but who knows, like you say the clause has been activated and the moneybags are after him. Time to move on.

Well, in 2016-2017 we did some good recruitment without the CL, so cross the fingers. Teams not in the CL sign good players all the time.

But as someone said, you rebuild from a position of strength. We didn't. There's something clearly wrong internally.

I don't know if it's FSG, don't know if was Ward/Edwards, don't know if its Pep Ejitters, don't know if it's Klopp.

But bad decisions are being made, and we don't know if ship has been righted. Looks better on the field for now.

You're trying to bait me aren't you? The only reason why I haven't mentioned Adama is because we need MF and Defenders..

You asked how many players have left Liverpool on a free.
