Midfielders other than Bellingham

Twitter talk is that we are targeting Lavia, and if we can't get him we may go for Ugarte.

Don't think we have ever been reliably linked to Kone.

Ok, I can get on board this train

I'd still quite like another mid, ideally in the tielemens mould

We need to scout.
Bellingham 100M+ - No.
Caicedo - 70M - No.
MacAllister - 70M - No.
Paulinho - 45M - No.
We can't do that, especially as we need more than 1 great midfielder. We need under-the-radar jobbies.
Klopp once said that he wished the club would be less risk averse. Most took that to mean spending money but I wonder if he meant getting some of these, not all, players before they became proved in top European leagues and cost silly money? How does a player who cost south of £15 million half a season ago suddenly be worth north of £70 million? Fernandez, at the chavs, is a good player but £105 million? Same with Caicedo, Mac Alister etc.

It's known that we have been "looking at" players like Caicedo, Mac Allister, Lavia, Enzo for years. We just didn't have the daring to place a bet on an unproven player. To be fair it's not easy to tell who will be a success. We have had our fair share of Le Tallecs, Pongolles, and Brewsters. And we failed Dominic Solanke as well. Now people are calling Carvalho a failure. Overall, Liverpool is not a great place for a youngster to be if you aren't at a certain level yet, and we have to acknowledge our shortcomings.

Soon as big PL clubs and asks for a player its £70, 80, 100m+. Our big problem is a) we have lenders that will not spend and by the looks of it not sell, would rather let players walk. Thiago and Matip have one year left wan waning - sell them for anything above £10m+, that will get you £20m.

Random journalist with no links says we're progressing with Ali Mac and Rice as our midfield deals for the summer.

Mountains of salt
If that comes off, it would be good window. Can we get Rice for less than £60m as he is going into the last 12 months of his contract?

I think it’s not going to be as cheap as for Brighton, say, because there’s little prospect of a sell on profit but it still be a whole lot less than paying £70 million for a player who’s only had half a season in this league.

They’re just throwing darts at anything that resembles what we need. Echoes of Bellingham, and then Werner and Harvetz before that. Won’t happen.

Looks like Utd are taking to long with the sale of the club that they wont be able to get much out of it during the summer window.

I’m not sure the Glaziers were even planning on selling, to be honest. The cynic in me say that they only announced that when it was reported that FSG was looking to sell Liverpool.

So FSG pretended to sell so that the Glazers would pretend to sell? That's like us Utd pretending to buy a striker so we end up wasting our money on Nunez/Gakpo, while we pretend to fix our midfield.

More like Man U bidding for Bellingham and pricing us out. The Glaziers only announced their intention to sell after FSG mooted the idea. Once FSG pulled the plug, the Glaziers have been stringing potential suitors along— I think they’ve no intention of selling.

As I said, it’s just the cynic in me.

We absolutely need to get our deals done within the first few days of the window for me. It sets the stall out early, and avoids all the messiness
When I set my stall out early in the bedroom it just accelerates the messiness.

I’m sure I read somewhere that West Ham have an option to extend his contract for another year - so they won’t be letting him go cheap.

if that's true.. they should just activate it, they don't wan to lose him obviously. Seems like a nice guy to have in the dressing room too.

@binomial looks like you're right. According to Brexit supporting paper, the daily fail, Fofana has a really low release clause. That's a no brainer, no?

Liverpool 'eye' cut-price midfield option
As aforementioned, it may be deemed by Klopp and his recruitment staff that Liverpool requires an upgrade at the base of midfield, especially given the mixed fortunes of Fabinho this term. One France international could follow the same path as the Brazilian did back in 2018 and swap Monaco for Merseyside.
According to the Daily Mail, defensive midfielder Youssouf Fofana could well be an option for the Reds this summer, with his relatively bargain price of $28m (£22m/€25m) unlikely to put off any potential suitors. The 24-year-old has been impressive for the principality side in recent seasons and could also be of interest to free-spending Chelsea during the off-season

Can we have less of the "Nazi-supporting" cobblers please? Whatever your views on the "Mail" (a paper I don't buy, before anyone asks) nothing they say or support comes even close to Nazism or what the Nazis did.

Fair enough, however, the paper's owner did support the Nazis back then. Its still a paper that likes to stoke division.

How much better than Tielemans is Mac Allister ?
I wouldn't say by much at all.

Maybe for us Macallister has that bit more about him in the areas we're looking.....like stamina and pace which Youri doesn't quite have.
