Unfortunately all a mute point, as I think his heart has all but packing in the game, along wth his pace.

Mums the word then.

Haha, I've just read spiderdiv's reasoning about how we should have sold one of our best players in order to ensure we improved

Hahaha
yeah we were MUCH better served keeping him for two more years and then selling him for 8 million. fucking marvelous that was.

Let's sell Torres now then. Ya'know, just in case we lose him for 8M in a couple years time.

Ha!

Although, to Spidey's credit - if we'd sold his fucking petl ove Babel last season, we'd have got 10M+ for the lad. Today we'd be lucky to get a bag of peanuts for the cunt.

Oh, right.

It is spiderneil, though, allowances should be made for the occasional outburst of illogical, ill-considered drivel
fucking whatever. you buy into the 'single handed' bollox I on the other hand believe in the team. if it were up you we'd have lost owen for nothing because you'd be under the fucking daft illusion owen would sign. you talk like you're the only one on this site with sense and everyone is stupid I remember full well your posts about owen and him signing and also owen's injury recoerd, well who looks fucking stupid now.

thank fuck we cashed in and thank fuck we did buy him back when people (like you) wanted him when n'castle were in for him. if it were up to you we'd STILL be pinning our title hopes on an injury wreak and we'd have no torres because you'd be desparate to find him a partner rather than someone to plain replace him.

This thread shows everything I hate about the attitude some of our fans have towards Michael Owen.

We are talking about a guy who scored 158 goals for us in 297 games. That's a great record by anyone's standards and all some people can do is laugh at the fact that his career has not gone as well as it could have done, just because he dared to sign for someone else? Well fuck right off. We call Everton the bitters, yet how bitter do you think you sound now? And with what reason, really?

What really gets me is the distortion of 'facts' that takes place to suit these badly formed viewpoints.
I have read on here that Owen apparently left on the last minute of the last day of the transfer deadline - well that can be proven to be bullshit for a start. He left on the 14th August. 6 days later we signed Alonso and Garcia.

It is presented as fact by some that Owen chose to go to Newcastle rather than Liverpool for the money. But does anyone really know that? Could it not be the case that Benitez didn't really want Owen back and was not ready to throw his whole budget at a player who would more than likely be injured half the season?

It is presented as fact by some that Owen is to blame for us playing 'poor' football under Houllier. But has it not occured to people that maybe he didn't have a lot of choice in this? And maybe this is part of the reason why he wanted to leave?

I have no ill feeling at all for Michael Owen and would love to see him playing regularly and scoring regularly for a decent club. As long as he doesn't score against us and we finish higher than whatever club he is playing for then that's fine by me!

With some of the abuse Owen gets on here you'd think he played for United.

Err at least one of the hystericals has stated that he left on the last day of the transfer window, effectively scuppering any chance of replacements.

When in reality he left 2 weeks before the deadline and we spent double the amount we got for him a week later
The reason we didn't buy a replacement for Owen when he left was not down to lack of time.

Er, ok. But to put it more sensibly, if you ran a company (you might do, I don't know) and one of your best employees you had ever had left to join another company, didn't do quite so well there and wanted to come back, would you say no, just out of spite?
