LOL at the score being called out as 9-7.

I seem to recall a local Istanbul paper doing something similar in 2005

And add in Camps ($400 a week) and tournaments....

And if they played in the street, they'd be better players.

And that’s the rub isn’t it. I started running street soccer sessions instead of normal training five or six times a year. 2v2 on half a tennis court to small goals made of cones. A point for a goal and one if you nutmeg an opponent.

My job was to pick the music that played on the speakers. The kids absolutely love it. The street Soccer not the music 🙂. And it exposes which kids actually have ball control and technique and which kids are just good athletes.

But even that is contrived and scheduled. Not one kid on my team plays for fun in the street with his mates.

I'm so happy and excited that the gracious Lord Saviour has decided to selflessly bring football and show the way to one of the world's most underprivileged nations. Fairytale stuff indeed
Great to hear! It really is fairy tale stuff. Can’t wait for the movie.

Messi continues to take the absolute piss.

Scores yet again, this time in the cup semi final from all of 35 yards. Outrageous.

I've my own experience of football in the states, I studied there in 02/03 and while it was very much a minority sport you could see the interest in it had started to pick up. Anyway, one day I was getting a lift from WV to DC and as we drove past a school we seen a football match on a school pitch and the kids were mainly of African American heritage. The guy I was with shouted out "We've got black kids playing soccer, we're going to win the world cup!!"

They're probably all drawing their pension now.

Does anyone here watch the MLS?

Benjamin Cremaschi, is he the next big thing?

I've dropped off the past couple seasons so can't answer your question. But I was watching pretty regularly when Toronto FC were good and all the matches were on cable.

Here’s the MLS cup final from last November. Have a look and give us your view. it’s extended highlights (10 minutes)

Imagine what kind of lesson in understanding of the game all these young players are receiving from playing with Messi (and Busquets and Alba too). That guy on the right wing would never even think of making this run, but Messi almost willed him to do it. Literally opening their eyes to the possibilities.

I wouldn't be surprised if some European clubs are having a look at Cremaschi, the player who received the pass from Messi.
18 years old, born in the US, has Argentine parents.

The Americans needed a player like Messi to go over there - to show that “soccer” can have highlight reels too.

Messi was likely always a better player than he looked at Paris. It sounds a toxic, miserable place to play football, and him and his family were never settled.

In a happier environment and a weaker league it's not surprising he's tearing the league apart. Messi was going to age better than the likes of Ronaldo. Messi is able to see the play, or what should be the play, thirty seconds before it happens. His understanding of the game is just levels above and that can transcend athletic decline.

Reminds me of Mario Lemieux in hockey in the 80s. Any winger fortunate enough to be on his line became a 40 goal scorer.

Apparently he said to Warren Young, "Just keep your stick on the ice and go to the net" and Young did and before he could realize it, the puck had come his way, deflected off his stick and went in for a goal. Mario had picked a pass so fine that Young didn't even have time to look up but scored anyway.

Playing with Messi is like that. Just make the run. He'll find you.
