I've got to be honest (and I know if flys in the face of popular opinion here) but I think Adam is at the very heart of the problem. His midfield partnership with Lucas maybe hasnt been given the playing time it needs to develop an understanding, but to me, at this point in time, they just look wrong for each other.
The benefit last year of Spearing was that he did the "chase around like a fucking terrier bothering people" bit, and let Lucas make the more Hamann-type intercessions. When it was Gerrard instead, you just get, well, Gerrard; physical, combative, and great use of the ball. Im not sure what Adam can actually give us - when on very, very top form, a passable impression of Alonso-lite? Which is why I thought (hoped) when we signed him that he was going to be our man to open up the Wigans and Blackburns, not be used against the top 6.
When the centre midfield is balanced we find it far easier to play around on the flanks and still make progress (see Maxi earlier this year).
Oh, and I rate Henderson and believe he will come good, but at this moment in time Kuyt should be playing, and Henderson should be getting used to the step up. PLaying him right mid, and letting him drift all over the place, whilst were having a crisis at right back, seems a recipe for disaster.
