Maxi Rodriguez on loan for rest of the season?

that's a point though, we should have made more attempts at these kinds of bosmans instead of buying hoards of mid priced players. that has always been a complaint of mine, with rafa.

Am I the only one who thinks he's a great player but we need a winger and a striker not another slow MF.

I want RVN.

graham hunter reckons it's quite likely we'll sign both.

Ya heard that on sky today but it will another player playing out of position on the left with no left foot. More narrow football.

He's a class player but we don't need him as much as we need a left winger with pace.

Considering we are skint I'd rather every penny goes into getting some pace out wide.

RVN will be fantastic though.

1. He's got pace

2. He can play on either wing.

3. Rafa has said that we need a RIGHT winger.

If we can offload Babel and Voronin you might see a left winger brought in aswell.

Maybe this Maxi deal is part of a Dossena transfer, with us lowering our valuation by getting him in return.

A striker is the main priority.
If we could have both it would be even better.

----------Mascher
Maxi-----------------Riera
---------Gerrard
-------RVN-Torres

That would be very good

According to one of the Admins at This is Anfield, we've all but bagged Maxi and RVN on loan deals, just to dot the i's and cross the t's as he put it.

If this is true, I'm feeling very optimistc and excited about what 2010 could bring.

Anyone who wouldn't take Ruud is one daft thicko. He shits goals and always has done.

Maxi would also be a shrewd pickup.

Beggars cannot be choosers.

with no left foot
Are you sure about that? His goal (linked further back in the thread) against Mexico was left-footed. He maybe right-footed, but his clearly has a left foot that is functional as well.

If we signed these two I'd be much more optimistic about making the top four, although I'd sooner see Pandev arrive than an ex-manc.

Ha! Quite. More in terms of not losing 7 out of 19 games, and moving up the table. Getting closer to the top and just see what happens. But getting at least 4th is so important, that getting in proven quality will increase our chances greatly.

I'm sceptical we'll get him. Only because i'm so downhearted about this season

Chin up Fabio, for some unknown reason I'm more confident for 2010. After all, it's near damn-it rock bottom 2 games ago.

If the injuries get healed, our players to their true form and we get RVN and Maxi then the future is looking brighter.

Yep. I'm confident we'll bounce back in 2010 & prove some critics wrong.

Wouw....

Maxi would be a storming signing, he's exactly the sort of player that'll take us forward.

RVN as a short term solution would be good too I reckon.

2010 is already boss (apart from the obvious hangover, obviously)...

they would deffo bring a buzz as well. horse twat has won league titles, and we don't have anyone else who has done that. they would deffo lift the mood at the club, i reckon.

now, someone tell me what kind of a player maxi is. and is ruud compl;etely past it/injury prone?
He can play either wing but is predominantly a right winger, pretty much ticks every box that a winger should. He isnt lightning, but he is not slow either, big plus is that he can create out of nothing and socres goals.

So...sounds like a Luis Garcia type signing? But a bit better? Yes please...
I always thought he would join a bigger club but he has been at AM for years. Man Utd were interested last year and the year before.

Ironic then, that the only way the 'bigger club' can afford him, is on a free when he's at the end of his contract, playing shit and not being offered a new one.

I hope we don't sign before I sleep over tonight so.

Cheers mate.

It would be an utterly amazing signing, hopefully they'll soon find a nice pen and get the work done.

SIGN!

On Maxi Rodriguez and Liverpool: UPDATED

Quite a few readers have been in touch asking for an update on the media reports linking Maxi Rodriguez with a move to Anfield...

UPDATE: In the last few hours sources at Atletico Madrid have revealed that Maxi Rodriguez is on the verge of a move to another club and we believe that club to be Boca Juniors. The Argentine midfielder is eager to catch the eye of Diego Maradona, his national coach, ahead of this summer`s world cup and a return to his native Argentina now appears likely. The player was left out of the Atletico Madrid squad this evening and sources in Madrid suggest that a move to Anfield has now been ruled out.

Win a signed Lionel Messi print

A well known agent was trying to convince Rafa Benitez to take Maxi from Atletico Madrid to Liverpool and meetings did take place. The right winger, 29, is out of contract at the end of the season and has had problems with key members of the Atleti squad. He is no longer a captain at the Vicente Calderon and has asked the La Liga side to let him leave for Boca or another team if an offer is forthcoming.

In order for any transfer to Liverpool to have taken place, there a few hurdles would have to have been overcome: firstly his €2.5m a year salary would make him one of the best paid players at Anfield and, secondly, Liverpool only wanted him on loan and Atletico want to sell him. Liverpool, meanwhile, are expecting to sell a player in January - one from Degen, Voronin or Dossena – in order to make a move for Maxi or anybody else.

Quite a few readers have been asking for my thoughts on Maxi and whether or not he`d be a good acquisition for Liverpool. Well, he is not the quickest winger around and has been a bit lazy in tracking back recently, but that may be as a consequence of his current state of mind and reflects a few differences of opinion with his manager and team-mates. Maxi certainly can work hard, but he`s not been scoring as many goals as we have come to expect from him lately, despite having a decent average for a midfielder over his career. If – and I stress it is a big if – he were to sign for Liverpool, it would offer Benitez a specialist midfielder on the right flank - as opposed to a converted striker – and is someone who possesses plenty of quality albeit lacking in pace.

Wherever he plays, he guarantees possession, he will get into the box and possesses good tactical acumen. However, I do have a doubt about him, primarily over his mental state after witnessing him going through the doldrums over the past 12 months in Madrid.
