He played on the left for Bilbao and regularly switches wings at Madrid

You're thinking of a different player. Probably Joseba Etxeberria.

Maxi Rodriguez is predominantly a right winger, who can also play inside behind the forward. Playing him on the left is like playing Yossi out there. Sure it's possible, but he won't be much good.

You're right - Espanyol

Maybe I am confusing him.

However, he DOES swap wings at Madrid from time to time.

One thing for sure is it offers us a chance to switch around the formation. As many have mentioned numerous times, there are games where we wonder is there a real need to have 2 DMs screening the midfield to protect the defence? It'll allow us to play 442 with a real RM than Kuyt whose at best, better suited to RW instead of sticking with Lucas in 4-2-3-1 all the time. Kuyt can then partner Torres upfront. Rafa could tinker around a bit with 4-4-1-1 too and there are other permutations like left flank as some stated, or even in the AMC role. Eitherway, he'll be a good addition with his adaptability and experience in the final 3rd of the pitch.

And this season? And the year before?

He's much too inconsistent to be deserving of a guaranteed spot.
That may be so, be he's not deserving of the tag 'bumbling' either.

Given Xabi Alonso was labelled "shit for two years" by 90% of SCM, I actually think it's rather kind in comparison.

the 'alonso is shit' stuff was fucking hysterical.
no one said alonso was 'shit' people said by 'HIS' standards he was average. a point xabi empathically proved in his final season here.

nah... people said he was shit, honestly.

This story's gathering momentum. Graham Hunter on SSN reckons we're definitely talking to him and Real have said teams can approach van Nistlerooy directly and they'll contribute to his wages.

maxi and horse face would be a very cheeky transfer window. depressing - but a hell of a lot better than fuck all.

That would not be a depressing january!

Would prefer Van Horse.
Maxi is not that good, thats why he never made it at a top team really.
Van Horseface is a striker and Maxi is an attacking midfielder/winger. I want both.

Maxi is excellent, to suggest anything else is ludicrous. How many wingers/midfielders have scored 68 goals in 200 games??

depressing that we're relying on freebies.

At least there's little or no risk, at least financially, it's a good ploy to use in January. Few big signings are made mid season.

they would deffo bring a buzz as well. horse twat has won league titles, and we don't have anyone else who has done that. they would deffo lift the mood at the club, i reckon.

now, someone tell me what kind of a player maxi is. and is ruud compl;etely past it/injury prone?

Van Nistelrooj and Maxi Rodriguez would be almost the perfect free transfer if you ask me.

Proven quality, experience and would actually contribute with something.

Voronin/Degen vs these two are like night and day.

If we could top that with Turan or Moses it would be the perfect window.
