Hopefully, at least one player that Oncey 'really rates' will not turn out to be fucking shit
I really rate Torres and Gerrard. I really rate Agger, Mascherano, Riera, Aquilani Johnson and Reina. Like them you mean? Or players who i like ie-Insua who you hate and wish injury on regardless of wether they play well or not?

Personal opinions aside and much more importantly - is he any good in Championship Manager ? Only then can he be judged

fat chops says its happening -

18.28 The latest instalment of our Maxi Rodriguez watch comes from Guillem Balague, who claims the Atletico Madrid midfielder is very close to finalizing a two and a half year deal with Liverpool. He has been left out of the Spanish club's squad ahead of Wednesday's Cup tie against Recreativo.
So, after wrongly claiming that Maxi favoured Boca, he's jumped on the media bandwagon and claimed to have the inside track on the current negotiations. What a nauseating cunt he is.

Hahaha

the thing with blagagay is that he probably burnt his bridges by divulging far too much inside info a few years back. i used to think at the time that people would soon stop telling him stuff.

sorry... why ARE atletico being so passive?
Because he has 6 months left and doesn't want to sign a new contract so if they want ANY bucks for him then he holds the cards. Besides they've got Bentley lined up as a replacement!!

Rvn will come if Madrid agree to pay some of his wages

As for Maxi Pad, I'll take anyone, although one could argue that we have quite enough one-paced South Americans already

That said, he must be better than shit Insua, Lucas and Aurelio

Whether or not he is an improvement on our one-paced average Europeans is another thing

Skully - I think Spion is right. He's not staying there (be it because they don't want him, can't afford him or he just wants to move on) and there's nothing they can do. He's served the club well (I think he was captain for a bit) so I guess they're letting him move on now ... Let's hope he adds something to our team.

Put him in RW and move Kuyt to LW.

Solve one problem (maybe) , create another. Kuyt may make the left side more defensibly capable but he most likely wont.

Yea, Kuyt could just play on the left magically. It's not that difficult. That's what we've learned by watching Babel, Gerrard, Cisse, Keane, Benayoun and a whole host of other players fail out of position there.

Why do we need to find a place for Kuyt or any other of the slow out of form members of our squad who ruin our counterattacking game?

😱 *checks poster's name* 😱 😱

Mods! Mods! Someone's hijacked LTW's account!

I don't remember many being in favour of Dirk playing on the right when Benitez started it, and it's worked out.. well, okay.

I'd rather see Dirk upfront where he's a decent enough goal-threat and doesn't break down so many decent attacking opportunities, howerver I wouldn't be against trying him out on the left. Aurelio's always injured, Babel never thrives out there, Yossi always looks shit and Riera's been out for a good while.

I think he'd do a decent enough job, because despite his obvious shortcomings, he's an adaptable, intelligent footballer.

TBH I suspect that LTW is working on the basis that Rafa is going to pick Kuyt in the starting 11 98% of the time regardless. As already mentioned he plays there for Holland at times and, let's face it, his strengths arent' really compromised by being on the left or right. He's got almost no touch but works his butt off every game. He can do that on the left as well as the right surely.

Having said that I would prefer, as already stated by others, to see him up front if he has to be in the team just now.

I guess I'm just sick of picking players rather than picking some sort of team. Riera helped us out last season significantly, without being so fantastic, because he IS in fact in his proper position, in our team.

442 with Kuyt upfront seems to be the way to go but it really leaves us a man over in midfield so Aquilini would have to be the one to miss out ahead of Gerrard and Mascher.

Which would leave him in a similar position to our other 20 million pound misfit Keane.

Id sell now and use the money to get a decent Striker.

Yeah thats a rubbish idea thinking about it.

You dont want Lucas as the best option for backup CM, thats the position we are in now. He would still get loads of games through rotationg and when Gerrard is playing further forward too.

Still think the priority is the need for a top striker. Hmm maybe we can raise enough funds from selling Dossena, Babel.

Its crap having no money!

Yup, but I guess we could go with 4-4-2 and have Kuyt up front?

I dont think he will drop Gerrard from his role so maybe Kuyt will find himself as back up.

-------------Torres-------------------
-----------------Gerrard-------------
Reira--Aqualini-Mascher--Maxi---

Aurelio-Agger---Carra--Johnson

2nd team

-------------Kuyt---------------------
-------------------Yossi---------------
Babel--Lucas--Spearing--El Zhar-

Insua--Skittle----Greek----Degen-

These days you really want 2 quality players per position so the 2nd team tells you everything about why we cant compete...That back up midfield is god awful! At least the 1st team looks half decent.

does anyone think our bad run will continue and maxi will turn out to be another dud ?

I think our bad run will soon end and we'll start to pull towards the top 4. I'm not very excited about Maxi though. A non-pacey, out-of-form, demotivated player who has never played in England wouldn't be the top of my shopping list. If we sign him though I'll be happy to be proved wrong.
