Of course it is. They'll spend again in Jan and regardless how much he's disliked, Mourinho has shown time and again in different leagues that's he's a top manager.

I've just read his comments about Smalling and Shaw. It's not dissimilar to what Klopp said about Sturridge and some players dealing with pain and only wanting to play at 100%, but the tone is far, far more accusatory, and it goes on to almost accuse them of being cowards, in comparison to brave soldiers like Jones, Young and Rooney.

This is great.

Indeed.

It's wonderful ... He's going to damage them more than Moyes and LvG did together ...

He's lost his touch, this is brilliant to watch.

What a change around eh?

By November we are top and Utd are most likely out of the race.

Who would have predicted that after 3 games and all the fanfare around Utds big signings. They had 9 Pts then. We had a brutal opening set of fixtures, but here we are top of the league!!

He's walking a fine line. If the team is winning then he can get away with this sort of shit but they're not. If they fail to get out of the group stages of the Europa league then he will be in deep shite

I doubt it. He can still hide behind (and I expect him to do so) the whole 'this isn't my team' and the idea of clearing up Moyes/Van Gaal's 'mess'. Plus Man Utd have already fucked up twice with their managerial appointments and going through three managers in a relatively short space of time will be a bit of an embarrassment to say the least after the stability under Ferguson.

I expect Mourinho will get three seasons and will spunk hundreds of millions in that time. And then will leave claiming he was slighted against in some way. I don't expect him to be particularly successful in that time but it's silly to think he's finished or whatever. I do think the way he wants teams to play needs to evolve a bit though.

Not so sure - he won the title in his first season with Chelski Mk1 and Inter, and in his second seasons at Real and Chelski Mk2 ... so part of his reputation is he could take someone else's team and get them to perform. I am sure that was one of the factors behind Utd hiring him ... that & the Mourinho scarves the mancs were all wearing this time last year.,

United have too much money to be written off.

That said be interesting who they go for, established stars at this window or up and coming.

Mourinho under scrutiny as it emerges Smalling and Shaw have been taking pain-killing injections | @JPercyTelegraph

This is very enlightening, I highly recommend reading the entire article. They also mention Klopp's treatment of Sturridge, but I think there is a huge difference – Klopp is coming from a sporting science background and is actually more cautious than an average manager about risking a player's health. Like that time Firmino had a slight knock before the game against Chelsea and Klopp didn't put him in the squad because he didn't want to take a slightest risk. Or when Sturridge declared himself fit to play and Klopp said he needed to prove his fitness by training for 10 days before he can be even considered.

Mourinho is the opposite – he wants the player to prove his loyalty by playing through pain and injury. It's kind of disturbing, actually.

Maureen is a translator, so his idea of working through the pain barrier is probably turning up for work even if you have a headache.

Klopp has said exactly the same thing about Sturridge and 'playing through pain' as Mourinho did.
Did you read my post? It's actually the opposite. Klopp NEVER forces players to play through injury. If anything, he's overly cautious.

Its not the same at all. That Studge comment was after he had felt something in training and the scans showed nothing wrong, if I remember correctly.

Bit different questioning why your players wont show loyalty and play with through an injury, and getting them to inject pain killers.

...like that old fool Hodgson did with Sturridge for England.

HA HA HA BRILLIANT stuff:

[article]Mourinho is unhappy with Manchester United’s medical department and wants the club to undertake a review because of the number of injuries to his squad.

The United manager has not singled out any individuals in the medical team, which is headed by the vastly experienced doctor Steve McNally, but is hugely frustrated at having lost players to injury for a combined total of 33 Premier League match days this season and is seeking improvements.[/article]

[article]Zlatan Ibrahimovic also has issues with the fitness and conditioning work he has undertaken since joining United last summer, although those concerns appear to be related to Mourinho’s methods rather than the medical department.

It is understood that the former Sweden striker feels he has lost sharpness since leaving Paris Saint-Germain in the summer and believes that United’s players do not do enough aerobic work in training, with Mourinho preferring to conduct the majority of sessions with the ball.[/article]

Jose Mourinho: Manchester United boss examining all aspects of first-team affairs

Jose Mourinho has won eight league titles in four countries
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is investigating all aspects of first-team affairs after being dismayed by the culture he has inherited at the club.
Mourinho is reportedly unhappy with United's medical department.
But, having succeeded Louis van Gaal in the summer, it is understood Mourinho has found the general culture at United falling short of his expectations.
Mourinho has won 23 trophies in spells at Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid.
The Portuguese publicly questioned defender Luke Shaw, 21, and Chris Smalling, 26, for missing Sunday's 3-1 win at Swansea with injuries, telling the media: "For the team, you have to do anything.

BBC Sport understands Mourinho, 53, is looking at every area in his remit, including travel, pre-season tour planning, fitness, sports science and the general make-up of his squad.
At the start of the season, the former Chelsea manager predicted United would compete for the Premier League title this season.
However, Sunday's victory over second-bottom Swansea was only their second win in their past eight Premier League games. They are in sixth place - eight points off leaders Liverpool.
In addition, Thursday's 2-1 defeat at Fenerbahce left them outside the qualification places in their Europa League group.
United have reached the last eight of the EFL Cup but Mourinho remains unhappy at various aspects of club life.
He also recently described living alone in a Manchester hotel and being pursued by photographers as a "bit of a disaster".

What are the issues?

Mourinho railed in public during a shambolic pre-season tour of China, when the planned match in Beijing against Manchester City was scrapped on the day of the game due to the dire nature of the pitch.
He brought his own fitness specialist, Carlos Lalin, into United's medical department as part of his backroom team, when he succeeded Van Gaal in the summer.
In addition, star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has been involved in every game since his arrival from Paris St-Germain, has been allowed to continue using his own physio, Dario Fort.
Now Mourinho is looking at the fitness regime as a whole.
So far this season, Mourinho has lost 10 players for a combined total of 30 matches, whereas in his first 11 Premier League matches with Chelsea last season, Mourinho was without six players for a total of 17 weeks.
The lack of appearances from Henrikh Mkhitaryan, for whom United paid Borussia Dortmund £26.3m, has dismayed some supporters, as has the United manager's decision to make Germany midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger train on his own until the beginning of last week.
On Wednesday, Professional Footballers' Association chief Gordon Taylor said he was "disappointed" with Mourinho's public criticism of Shaw and Smalling.
