I know that this has been discussed a bit before but having searched a bit I still cannot find the information I seek.

Myself and my lad are going over for the Sunderland game next Saturday and because the flights in and out of liverpool were expensive I decided on the fly/drive option instead. So basically I am looking for some where safe to park the hire car fairly close to Anfield for Saturday afternoon. It needs to be fairly close as I have to get to Birmingham airport before 7.45pm and so will need to make a quick getaway from Anfield.

So any ideas anybody?
Is there a Tesco or other supermarket carpark nearby, that I could get away with leaving a car in, on a saturday afternoon in for four or so hours?
Cheers in advance.

There's a train leaves Lime St at 17.34 that gets into Brum Airport at 19.45. Do that and you can have a bevvy, plus the ticket is only 9 quid.

That sounds like an excellent idea Crump but unfortunately I have already booked the car.
I will definitely consider that for next time.
Ta anyhow.

In terms of parking, on this map you'll be coming and leaving via Queens Drive on the right of it so you want to be as near to that as possible. See Pinehurst - connecting Townsend to Utting - there's loads of three or five quid jobs round there and you're best doing that and leaving when he sticks the board up and legging back to your car.

That all sounds pretty good Crump.
I think I know Townsend as we would have walked as far as there before to get a taxi.
I will study it in detail later.
Really appreciate that mate.
Cheers.

Grand.
Where is Shiel Road Spion?
All I am getting on google maps is one in Wallasey.

It's somewhere near Kensington, I think.

I stayed in a place near there (NOT doing that again if I can help it) and I think it was near Shiel Road.

And yes, listen to Spion..when we went up, we were on the road again barely ten minutes after the game despite the crowds..

If you do happen to park on a road with the 'mind yer car scallies' as Spion puts it, then give them £1 and tell em they'll get more when you come back as long as it's not been touched, that way even when you do come back you've only give them a couple of quid and your car isn't kicked to fuck, well worth a couple of bob for not having the hassle.

I'd park in town and jump on a bus to be honest.

I'd never leave my golf around a football ground.

Park closer to the junction with Rocky Lane and then its 10-15 mins walk to ground. To get there: When coming off M62, stay on left hand side and ignore signs to grounds (!). Go under underpass and up the hill and get into right hand lane. You'll see the Glasshouse pub on your right and at the next lights turn right (filter signal). You'll then have a huge Tesco's on the left and you want to turn left when you are alongside Tescos. Follow this road for about 2 miles until you come to McD's on your left and turn right. This is Sheil Road. Go past one set of lights and then anywhere will do.

Ah, Sheil Road,
My dyslexia is getting the better of me. 😉

Cheers for that Spion.
I take it there will be a few Scallies in the vicinity to relieve me of a few quid to mind the car. Is it just anywhere on the street to park or is there a few "unofficial " carparks to use.

And Sqiggles, I appreciate that I am taking a bit of a risk parking the car as I plan to but I am pretty tight for time after the match and I most certainly don't want to miss my plane home so I am not simply ignoring your advice.

Cheers for all the advice lads.

Never anyone there asking me for money. And print off google maps and use the back roads to avoid the Mcd's junction will save you 5 mins. Hampstead Road FTW...

I will have the sat nav with me so I will try to programme it to avoid those problem areas.
I believe you have joined an ever increasing list of posters from here that I owe a pint to for their good advice given.
Make sure to hold me to it if we ever meet.
Thanks again mate.

Thanks Spion. Sheil Rd proved to be a great place to park, less than fifteen minutes from Anfield and outside the scally zone as well apparently.
Also, good heads up Crump re leaving at the ninety minute mark as we just about got ahead of the traffic and so made Birmingham airport with a little bit to spare.
Cheers lads.

You're welcome mate. Glad it proved useful to you.

i had a brilliant spot where now they've built houses near it making it a bit more of a rat run to the stadium. used to take me 5 mins to walk to the ground. the lad who'd mind the car i'd give anything between 1 to 3 pounds. never a scratch on it, infact he made me move it once to avoid getting a ticket.

i used to park allsorts from hot hatches to beat up saloons. even parked a tvr and porsche there a few times. some of these lads imo get a bad reputation.
