Match Thread - West Ham V Liverpool Fa Cup Fourth Round

The fouls in dangerous positions are Lucas's fatal flaw.

I would like Stewart to take over from him permanently.

Yeh, lets blame Lucas for the freekick, or maybe not. The West Ham player did a nice dive. Nothing Lucas could do about it.

If another player had done the same thing then the West Ham player would be blamed but now it was Lucas, so yeh, lets blame him,

This loss - unfortunately - is on two people.

1) Klopp - stupid subs ... We were dominating the game with our creativity and movement. In one swoop, he took away our two creative outlets and our midfield had no one to give the simple passes to.
2) Benteke - he played well, he did. But he missed really really good chances. Sorry, but that's poor and I am curious if he will recover mentally from this ... He knows he fucked it up.
That fan club didn't last long!

A little surprised by Ilori and Chirevella - both dog shit last time out, but reasonable tonight. Stewart looking better and better. Smith probably the biggest loser on the night (bar the hapless mong Benteke)

Smith? Why? Played well ... one mistake defensively, but overall, solid and far far better attacking option than Moreno.

The lad is injured you clueless prick; so he doesn't actually need to go anywhere near him

Really soft free kick massive dive but they did it all night and played the ref. We have to become smarter and do the same. We are so compliant. Payet and Valencia just backed in then threw themselves on the floor. We should be going off at the player and the ref for diving but we just take it

Ilori looked promising ... but I think he's just auditioning for his opportunity next year at another club

Smith was excellent for most of the night .. until he got cramp. Can't even blame him too much for their goal since the cross was deflected. I thought Ilori, Chirevella, Stewart and Texeira (didn't understand bringing him off, Coutinho OK, just back from injury) all did very well indeed and should now be challenging the established squad members for game time.

Smith was very good. Deserves a start in the league.
Pedro showed his talent aswell.

We look a totally different team with Studge and Coutinho.
Hope Studge stays fit now. That would be fantastic.

Like Smith, hate Moreno. But he looked short defensively for me - the only way he'll learn is by playing mind, but before tonight I thought he was a shoo in for a starting spot in a league game

Ugh. Unreal. Just saw the last 15 mins of extra time. Was great to see Sturridge out there and Flanno again. So typical a goal to give up

The 754 minutes we played tonight were some waste just to concede with the last action of the game. Sickened, really wanted to go on a cup run.

Lucas also had to cover for Smith that was injured. That was the reason to why he was in that position in the first place. In the second half of the extra time he played both as a central defender and left back. Smith was moved higher up the pitch because of his injury.

And people wonder why he's so fucking divisive. Because he's all heart and can have spells of real quality, but he's completely dogged his career with stupid shit like that. Well, it just cost us in the last minute of a huge game we'd worked so fucking hard to stay in. You've got lads there like Stewart who are dead on their feet, inexperienced and just doing the sensible things to see them kept out. And then the most experience player on the pitch does THAT.
Come on Mark that's harsh on Lucas, the lad has played better than anyone tonight and the referee gives a soft free kick against him which the team could have defended better collectively and you blame Lucas for the loss. It's not like he gave away a stupid penalty or played a bad back pass and was directly responsible. I notice there was no blame for the players who missed all the chances at the other end.

Klopp killed our momentum by subbing both Tex and Phil.
Sure, sub Phil due to match fitness but don't take off Tex as well. Ibe was terrible today.

I like Smith and think he is great going forward, but he got taken on the outside far too easily a few times tonight. He's learning though and he's a kid. He's alot more decisive and aggressive in the right way than Moreno is, he definitely deserves some indulgence because going forward he looks far more of a threat than Moreno, and defensively he holds his position much better, despite being turned too easily at times.

Oh do fuck off Arn - he's made giving stupid fouls away an art-form all his Liverpool career. He's been around long enough not to get drawn in- it obviously was a foul as he is also a master of trying to defend the indefensible when it comes to his fouls - he did not utter one objection.
I just hope Kevin Stewart gets picked over him as our defensive midfielder from here on in

Yeah; it's completely staggering that Benteke has had a free pass in this thread - wtf is that about?

Doesn't matter if we win the league cup. Does matter if we don't win the league cup.

Not a bad performance. Good players too rusty.

Illori played well enough but I remain amazed that we spent near enough 7M on him.

Flanno looks a long way off the form he showed before getting injured, which is understandable I suppose. Amusing run of murdering people though.

Smith is a funny one. He looks even more hopeless defensively than Moreno half the time but pretty productive in attack. Questionable as to whether he deserves a start.

I wonder whether Ibe will end up running out of chances. He's had a lot of game time this season and done very little. I'd be pretty concerned about going into next season with him as my only pacey attacking midfielder / winger.

Stewart I'm still trying to get my head around. Is he actually decent or is it all a trick?

Benteke is probably unlikely going to get the game time to play his way out of this slump now that Sturridge and Origi are back. Tough times.

I feel bad for Tex. Looks good but always appears to be well out of favour. I imagine he'll go the way of Suso.
