Mascherano

I see what you're getting at but, had that been the driving force behind it, I'd have expected his performances to turn to sh!te like Torres' did. What actually happened was that he was monstering the Arse midfield and getting MOTM just days before he left.

Go and watch the CL game vs Arsenal, the Anfield leg. When Walcott breaks and sets up Adebayor to score, look for Mascherano's reaction in the background as they celebrate.

He's similar to Suarez, in the way that he gives 110% on the pitch - just because you thought he had a good game doesn't mean he wanted to stay. Go and read his interviews about why he left, he talks of broken promises and things like that, similar to Torres

Lucas refused to pose for a photo with my lad on Sunday, as did Skrtel. Both Sturridge and Moses did, and so did John Bishop. We didn't see Agger, but I am sure he would have obliged

So we should bin Lucas & Skrtel, put Sturridge on a 10 year contract, sign Moses and employ Bish to replace that sports psychologist fella. And my boy can do a job at left back too ...

Is your lad a ginger?

I wasn't the only one who "thought" he had a good game, my point wasn't based on that game only and I read his interviews at the time, thanks very much. The Torres comparison *is* instructive, though - players often spout such empty nonsense when they leave, especially when they're far from convinced within themselves (as Torres painfully obviously wasn't, right from the moment he signed for the Chavs) that they're happy with the choice they've made.

Well Mascherano left in the 2010 close season, around the time Hodgson was appointed. So he never kicked a ball for Hodgson.

No, he played one game under Roy in August 2010, but then he wouldn't play against Man City to force Roy's hand I think, if you remember. To force the move to Barca.

The way some posts read you'd think we're faced with the simple option of Lucas or Maschareno.

Maschareno might be available but so are many other players.

Assuming that Mascherano is still married to the same wife, it seems logical that he wouldn't want to return to Anfield because he would have the same problem again!

Oh Gene, don't let me down

Sorry Vlad! He would be useful in a few games but a burden in most others. Even under Rafa I remember Mascherano trying to support the attack and the other teams basically letting him have the ball because they knew he couldn't hurt them. Our own players wouldn't even bother making runs when he had possession because he wasn't up to finding them with the ball. I'd hate to see him back.

Don't know where these Mascherano to #LFC stories are coming from. Interviewed him in March & he said he had no wish to return to England.

Heh, in fairness there have been alot of rumours circulating since then that his days at Barca are numbered. March was ages ago, in that sense.

I agree with Vlad, but then I agree with Keni too, there's other players out there. The point is we should be looking for an upgrade.

Not really, Ports old fruit. Rafa's family didn't want to go when he took over at Inter, but that didn't stop him (as I thought it might) going to Napoli.

I'm not sure any of us who would be OK with Mascher coming back have said it *has* to be he. I'm certainly not doing so, and I'd be delighted to sign someone who represented better value. However, I'm in no doubt he'd be an upgrade, and a big one, on our defensive strength in midfield, and our "Goals Against" column last season says we need that. We're not going to solve that problem just by making improvements to the back four.

Bottom line for me is, if the price is right, then we should be looking at him. Simply because he brings experience and depth to the squad in an area we are lacking. We need more depth if we want to compete in the European Cup and challenge for the league.

Get him but not at stupid money. We need a high tempo pressing DM who can win the ball and move it on. If that's not him, then we need to be looking elsewhere. Gerrard is not the real solution.

I think you're both highly deluded and heavily biased - living in a wonderland where nobody ever wants to leave LFC, and those that do can't wait to return. Torres's medals since joining Chelsea speak for themselves.

And I think you're full of it. Torres' medals only go to prove the point I'm making. Despite the fact that he's now got them, it's clear to anyone who's willing to see what's in front of their nose that he's never been happy there. Even when we played them a few days after he left he had a face like thunder, and he's become even less happy with his lot as time's gone on.

Get over yourself.

Torres didn't look happy for a long time before we got rid. I think it's to do with the fact that he's gone to shit, not the club he's playing for.

But that would be understandable too.

He played a minimal part in them though, compared to what he was doing at Liverpool. It's great saying "oh but he's won this", yeah he has, but everyone knows he wasn't integral to it, himself more than anyone.

And I don't think anyone actually *thinks* that no one wants to leave Liverpool. Torres clearly did at that point in time, but his body language has never looked the same (yeah I know it wasn't great just before he left either) and he's never had a partnership since, like the one he forged with Gerrard. There has been plenty of stories over the years from players at Chelsea saying he wished he hadn't left Liverpool - no smoke and all that. I think it was done on a wim and he pretty much regretted it within a few months.

His regrets might be eased somewhat by his medal collection, but regardless, as far as personal satisfaction goes, I reckon he's got mixed feelings.

Mascherano clearly wanted to go, he was at the height of his career, wanted by the (then) best club in Europe, who could blame him. I don't buy that he was forced out, I think it was a pretty easy decision for him but I also think under better circumstances he would have stayed.

I don't think anyone's deluded enough to think otherwise, but the situations were alot more complex that some people make out, we were about as grey as it gets at the time.

I'd loved him as a player, heart of a Lion and as a professional footballer he did what he felt was best for him during his 10 or so year long career, fine! But, as has been said "If you can't support us when we lose or draw, don't support us when we win." and in the same vain "If we weren't good enough for you in 2010 then fine, but you can fuck off now"

Who else would be as useful at 10Mil ? He is very tempting. Also shades of Gary Mac re age and confidence. in a young side.

What a game that was, one of the great games, the way it ebbed and flowed throughout and the happy ending for us, love that game.

Mascherano and Alonso are the only ones that I can think of that went on to have a real life after Liverpool , oh and Keegan I suppose.

All that shit about his wife looking at her friend from her window. I'd rather sign Fritzl to babysit the entitled cunthorse.

And all that shit about refusing to play against Man City. I'd rather sign Purple Aki to bum the shit out of him just before he thought he was gonna start the CL final.
