What, like last season? I'm no happier than you about where we are at the moment, but let's not go overboard here.

Last season was the execption. It was when we went on a flow With the Leagues by far best player leading Our line and Joe Allen hardly got a sniff.

If we start the season with De Gea and Man Yoo with Ming we would be top four and they would be about where we are. I truly believe that.

I have seen him literally save 9-10 points for them this season and we all know what Ming has done for us.

That doesn't stand up. For one thing you said Rodgers' whole style, not just Allen, was nowhere near winning anything. As for last season being the exception, it was only Rodgers' second full season - how do you know this season isn't the exception?

It's also a bit lucky. If he *had* clicked, they'd be right up there with the Chavs and Citeh. They're not far away as it is. 😡

Do you think this is his first manager job?

Rodgers got some things right today and so did the team but on the whole it all felt like a case of too little too late. The defeat wasn't so much a result of any mistakes today but the way the campaign has been managed from the get go (probably a good topic for a thread).

The forward line (minus Markovic) is what we've been needing to do for quite a while now but by the time it's finally come around, the players are too mentally (and in some cases physically) shot to really make it work (see: Sterling - and by the way, the criticism of him as a player and a finisher is absurd).

The goalkeeper situation is beyond my comprehension. It's like a father watching his daughter go out every weekend for the entire school year only to then tell her she can't go to the prom on account of her behaviour over the course of the year. Dropping Ming for the Utd game feels more vindictive on Rodgers part than anything else. He's had so many chances to take him out of the limelight and he chooses now, a game that everyone looks forward to, with the world is watching to do it. Can anyone defend this?

Too fed up to carry on.

Jones can at least kick a ball.

Simon is fcuk up waiting to happen when the ball gets rolled back to him....

We don't really know the full story of Mignolet behind the scenes. He has been looking increasingly nervous recently. It may be that Brendan decided he wasn't in a fit mental state to play in such a high-pressure game, or Mignolet himself may not have wanted to play.

If so he shouldn't get his salary this month and we should sell him.

We're still playing too many central midfielders. We had 3 (+Coutinho) today. Play wide mids instead of having players out of position.

Play Markovic and Sterling wide, Henderson and Gerrard (or Can even better) in the middle with Coutinho or Lallana behind the striker.

We have to sell Allen...or at least stop having him as a starter.

Lallan is horrible HORRIBLE at defending.

Balotelli looked inspired imo and actually I think he'll going to start scoring(!) from now on.

We have to start pressing on our half of the pitch. It just stupid to press up front and then fall all the way back to our penalty area. We need to press the fucker with the ball at least.

Moreno looked so fucking confused today. Allen didn't help but still. I thought lwb would suit him but if anything he was worse

Possibly a few more than 9 so far.

Utd were awful imho. They've got some great attacking players and De Gea in superb form. But so average.

I agree we weren't great but we were missing 3 first XI defenders and the same in midfield. The team we started with was 100% last year's team with no new signings.

Add Herrera, Blind, Shaw, Smalling, Rafael, Di Maria and Falcao and we will hopefully get better.

Delighted that Joe Allen is this week's scapegoat. I wasn't quite sure who we'd plump for, but seemingly there's unanimous agreement after this match, so can we all agree to stick with him for at least a week? It'd make everything easier to follow.

The manager spent 120M pounds in the summer, has us in 9th place 18 points off the league leaders and it's only halfway through December, and hasn't organised a defence in 3 years. But apparently a top class keeper, or "Benzema" would solve our woes.

We are fucking awful. As bad as anything Hodgson put out, and people are ranting about Joe Allen.

You sound Joe allens agent, always there to defend him again and again.

He isn't a scapegoat, He was awful today.

As was Henderson, as was Gerrard, as was Moreno, so was lovren, etc etc etc

Nowhere near equal levels of criticism for them

For allen it just confirms what most people have thought.............he isnt quite good enough for the first team though a good squad option.

Would like to see can with a run of games

On the bright side:

1. Sterling gaining experience up front will help him to improve. Ultimately we'll rely on him to partner Sturbridge so its a good thing he is getting minutes as a striker.

2. Rodgers wanted a technical approach and the first things he did was drop Lucas for Gerrard and shunt Henderson to right back. He is making good calls but just at the wrong time. In any case its a big positive if Henderson can play right back as his lack of technique was leading to some ugly football lately. It also makes room for Lallana, Coutinho or Suso to play deeper.

3. Markovic is starting to play well. Balotelli is a good sub. Johnson is injured. All good things.

The only thing missing is a cut-out Borini mask to go on Lovren's and Jones' faces.

Can should be our first choice centreback by default.

Allen is a good player, I like him. But he was awful today. As were most of our team.

Off that 120 mill we've bought Markovic and Can. Both cant get a game. Can deserves to play and Markovic has needed time to adapt. But the strange thing is we're close to Rafa with a few of these situations. Play someone into form and the bench them.

I didn't see the game as I was in California for work but it seems

Jones played well.
We played well
We should have got something out of the result
We created a lot of chances (new feature)
Markovic is coming good
Balotelli and sterling missed seven clear cut goal chances.
Rosco is in pissing on another thread but he just got spanked and no one is biting.

Alright then, this seems better than I thought!
