What I've learned from today -

1) We need to spend x million on the best available goalie - that's the only reason we didn't score 4 goals today
2) You need confident goal scorers - if we had 1, we'd have scored 1-4 goals today. That's how we almost won the league last season, and how unfortunately, Manure will make a push at the league title (but fall short).
3) Sterling may think he's worth more than 70k/week, but Charlie Austin would have had a hat trick today on the chances he squandered.
4) We get breakouts whatsoever from officials ... none.
5) Sterling gets no protection whatsoever - and opposing players know it.
6) Mario Balotelli should have scored three - I don't get it. He knows how to score but I guess this is just a season in a microcosm, nothing is going to go right.
7) Rodgers put out the right team (Perhaps his only mistake is not starting Lucas) - and made the right subs - and that's footy, he wasn't rewarded with anything. We were undone by lax marking, horrible officiating and Lovren being ... well ... Lovren (only when wearing our strip). Overall though, Lovren played meh.
8) I've not really cared much about this season - but I actually was upset today. To lose to these cunts (see Phil Jones' dive? See Mata pretend he didn't put his studs into Lovren's ankle and claim it wasn't a foul? See Rooney moaning to the ref every fucking chance he could?)? We're better than them - and if we play every game of the season like we did today, we can challenge for 4th, if not 3rd.
9) Henderson needs to be dropped ... He's just not adding anything ... Hopefully he will again soon.
10) I think Markovic will play a larger role in this season going forward.

To spare Modo & Ninja's necessary additions, "Fire Rodgers, bring back Rafa"

You type quick!?! What minute did you start writing all this................

Hard too be too critical when when the gayer has played a blinder.

That said 3 nil against the scum is awful

I think the fact he missed some of his chances is reason for the anger......

If it was Ricky he would hung and drawn by now.........

Minute 82 ... and then I thought, better a new thread in honor of Rosco.

That being said, a world class goalie wouldn't have made a difference today ... We lost because we couldn't put the ball in the net ... We're far off, but the premier league is weak this season, and we could easily still do something if the team puts in the type of attacking performance it did today ...

In order to appease Modo and Ninja'man, maybe we should get Rafa as a defensive coach?

I'm too filled with rage to type for very long. It bubbles up.

Buy Ings. Recall Ibe. Lazar and Can have to play more. Gerrard should come on as a sub for Can in every game.
Buy a good confident keeper.

Set up was alright but should have started Lucas.

The subs were poor. Markovic a left wing back?? That opened us up even further and 3-0.

Would have taken out Allen and not Lallana.

Sterling was in tears. 19 year old and we're putting so much pressure on him. 110 mill spent and we look to him.
Granted he should have scored but fuck me. The response on here is a joke.

He lacks composure but he can improve. Just like Henry did.

Did Henry start a striker and then LM? Or winger to striker? I guess time will tell but he won't be here in 2 years for us to enjoy the fruits of of the work put into him.

First time I saw Henry play was in World cup 1998, he was a winger then. Juve brought him over to play on the wing as well. I think he really developed when Wenger got him playig as a wing forward with Bergkamp in the middle.

I find it amazing that nobody ever has a problem with just how shit our fullbacks are at defending / how little defending they do.

It never gets a mention, it's the single biggest problem in the team.

In contrast to Tuesday night, I thought Rodgers' team selection was a brave one although there was always the downside that the players weren't experienced in playing that formation. With wisdom of hindsight, it was expecting too much of Sterling to play him up front. I think it might have been better to rest Sterling and give Borini a game - as a proper striker he might have made more of the many chances we had.

The scoreline flattered us but we were clinical up front and have the second best if not the best keeper in the world at the moment.

I thought the first half was on balance the best half I have seen us play, besides the Spurs game. The pressing style returned and we looked sharp. I thought Lallans in particular looked lively.

Poor finishing from Sterling, horrific defending from Allen and no tracking from Coutinho and within 30 seconds we go from taking the play to them to down one.

Still though we finished the half well until a breakdown/officiating mare for the second. I didn't understand subbing off Lallana (instead of Allen). I didn't understand bringing on Ballot Balotelli. I thought Markovic should have beenough on earlier to support Sterling.

It's all worrying but not the time to sack the manager. He has lost the plot but I don't see a lot of great alternatives. Give him time to turn it around. We have spent a lot of money (poorly) and don't have the ability to invest again like that right now. Let's see what he can do with them over the rest of the season.

I can't help but think the selection and tactics were desperate but ill thought out gambles to shake things up a little because nothing else seems to be working.

we were better than we have been for some time going forward, but defensively still the same bizarre individual errors that cost us points. lallana didnt deserve to come off so i assume it was due to his ribs more than performance. markovic looked bright again when getting forward, but he should have come on or even started instead of coutinho

Obviously United fans are crowing, and when you win 3-0 why not. But look in more depth at the match and you realise that it could easily have gone the other way, De Gea's superb performance and being named MoM only goes to underline that fact. If only Sterling had put any one of his 4 chances in the net (and he should have had two for sure) then it would have been a very interesting game .... especially had he put the first away, because United would then have been 0-1 instead of a few seconds later 1-0.

Key Moments
1. De Gea save from Sterling
2. Rooney Goal (and it was a really good goal) just 25 seconds after Sterling's miss.
3. Ref & Linesmen fail to miss obvious offside for United's 2nd goal
4. Sterling misses a golden opportunity just into the 2nd half, failing to round De Gea.
5. De Gea save from Balotelli tipping it onto the bar
Of course when #3 went in then De Gea's save from Balotelli #2 was just the icing.

United 11 shots (6 on target) Liverpool 19 (9 on target). Blocked Shots 2-6. Corners 2 - 7. Shot accuracy 66.7% to 69.2%.

So, after expecting us to get played off the park (and I forecast 3-1 before the match) the only thing I was only really disappointed with (and lest us not forget, this was United at OT) was the scoreline because we deserved so much better than the scoreline indicates, we played with much more attacking verve than we have done for a while and had Sterling had his shooting boots on, or the officials been more alert, the result may have been entirely different. It bodes well for the rest of the season if we can continue to raise our game (as we also did in the 2nd half against Basel) like this.
