Mane's Form..

Would anyone be happy giving him an extension like we’re offering the others?

Yes - more than happy, as it is unlikely we will sign anyone for that position this or next season. We need him - and the only other player that I know of that could have the same level of impact like him is Bayern Munich's Sane.

Mané is trying, but I agree with Momo, it's frustrating to see him play atm. Sometimes he's more detrimental than helpful on the pitch. Ruining our counter attacks with bad decisions.

We had plenty of chances to bury them yesterday, however, Mendy was exceptional as was their 9 man defence.
Normally we would use set plays to break down ultra defensive formations, it did not happen yesterday.
Our alternative for Mane is Div, who through lack of offers will not go anywhere.

Usually on the forum, Brendan or Ross would go dig up old posts from posters saying Mane was more important than Salah.

Salah has always been our #1 attacker and will continue to be. It would be nice to get some cover for Mane who has lost his edge a little bit.

At the time, those posts were correct. Mane had a bigger impact than Salah in several important games. The final we lost against Madrid was basically Mane Vs Madrid.
He was also great in Barca game despite not scoring. There are many examples, but the difference is Salah has stayed consistent, Mane hasn't. So now, yes Salah is our big man.

Mane has started ok, scored last game, and it was his shot being handled on the line.
If that is his goal, how does it look then? 2 goals out of 3 games.

It was me saying it though

He's given 7/10 performances in first 2 games and now a 5/6.....he never used to play below an 8.

I thought Elliot was boss yesterday, but besides that early shot he was always looking for Salah or TAA to deliver the final ball, when he was often in a better position himself.

Solution: Drop Mane for Elliot, we've got plenty of midfield options, forces Elliot to take more control, gives Mane the kick up the arse he clearly needs right now.

What ?! He was almost as bad in the first two as well. 7/10 my arse. He was lucky to get a pair of 6s.

Here's Rurik's take vs. Burnley
Mane 6 – Super wasteful with his chances today and didn't create anything for others; that's not the Mane we need and love. Still getting on the end of plenty of chances, so it seems like only a small adjustment or a sudden burst of confidence and he'll be back; let's hope this goal will do that.

Mine vs. Norwich
Mane (6) his passing drives me nuts (as I may have mentioned once or twice already), occasionally brilliant but more often short, wide or just ... Some lovely moves but a couple of crap shots too.

It was his Anfield debut as a just turned 18 year old. I can't blame him for deferring to senior players. But yes he could have tried something himself, I'm sure that will come once he's settled in.

I thought Elliot was boss too. But I think moving him forward will not be ideal as he does not have the pace to play in our front three.

I am thinking on the similar lines. I was disappointed that Elliott should have tried a Coutinho shot from outside the box. At times he was given space and although the box was crowded, he had chances on the edge of the box where he preferred playing out side instead of taking a shot. Now this is all in hindsight and would not have been a discussion, had for example Jota scored that header which he put over the bar. But I would like Elliott to try once or twice to add that unpredictability to his game.

About Mane, I am not criticizing him but just expecting a bit more. It is just that we have seen him doing much more in big games ... well specially in big games. So it is natural that when he gets on the ball, I expect the opposition to go in total chaos and do silly things but that did not happen at all in second half.

Thinking a bit more about this the day after the game, if last and this season’s form are indeed indicative of Mane’s permanent decline as a player, there probably isn’t anyone not named Mbappe we could buy who could approach Mane’s contribution to this team. Salah is efficient and sometimes does create chances for others, but that is not exactly his forte. Firmino links the play together, but it’s Mane who can be considered our playmaker, despite not being a great passer - Sadio’s ability to drive forward with the ball and progress it consistently while committing defenders is a key feature of our attacking play and something we have been relying on season after season as the main option of building attacks. So if Mane is indeed not the same player he was, we probably won’t come close to winning the title this season and even signing someone like Ismailia Sarr or Jeremy Doku on the deadline day won’t fundamentally change the calculus.

So all our eggs are indeed in the Mane basket - if he turns it around, we can have a great season, if not, we’ll just have to make the best out of our situation. I would still love to sign a quality winger/forward, but there can be no ready-made solution for replacing your superstar.

Minamino’s better games have all come when he was playing in the LW role, so he is surely another option - very different player to Mane, of course, so if he were to start getting some serious minutes, our whole tactical structure would need a rejig, but that’s a possibility.

Jones - yeah, I can see him in that position too. They are all “good” options worth considering, but obviously nothing close to what a peak Mane would give you.

And unfortunately probably still not as effective as off peak Mane as well.
It might be worth giving a try, even if it was only to give Sadio a kick up the arse.
Though he doesn't come across as the type pf player that either needs or benefits from one.

Nah, I don't think he is that type. He is the type who gives everything he's got and if the production drops off it means there is simply nothing more in the tank. For what it's worth, I still think he will turn it around and find his form again. I always thought out of our front 3 Bobby will be the one that declines first and sharpest, while Mane can still play and be good well past 30. We'll see if I'm proven right.

Well, that's debatable. Against Chelsea and parts of the game vs Burnley Mane was pretty much losing the ball every time he got it – that's not "effective" by any measure and surely can be improved on. I do agree that even when off form or slower he's still overall a better attacking player than either Jones or Minamino, but only if he adjusts his game accordingly and stops continuously running into blind alleys, which just hurts the team.

I don't think we are disagreeing. Effective might have been a poor choice of words but even an off form Mane would still, in all likelihood, create more goals, assists and chances than his potential replacements.
I hope you are right about him finding his form again because I am seriously worried that this is it for him.
