Im not looking forward to this at all. Over 2 weeks without a game, an absolute must win game for them.
Im worried Mr Rodgers will do something silly with the line up.
I would play
Mignolet
Flanagan
Sakho
Skrtel
Johnson

Lucas
Gerrard
Henderson

Sterling
Suarez
Sturridge

I think we will win again but this time it will be tight and probably by just the single goal

I'm shocked so many fear them. We are going to batter them and convincingly

Yeah, cos we've never played Utd when they're flying & we've been shite & taken the points of them.

Apprehension is normal pat, every game is a must win & these games are like derbies, form can sometimes mean nothing.

Balance of power shifting between English football's two heavyweights

Liverpool’s thrilling resurgence under Brendan Rodgers has been accompanied by the dramatic decline of Manchester United

The balance of power between English football’s two heavyweights is shifting ahead of Sunday’s lunchtime showdown at Old Trafford.
Liverpool FC’s thrilling resurgence under Brendan Rodgers has been accompanied by the dramatic decline of Manchester United overseen by David Moyes.
Having finished 28 points adrift of the champions last May, the Reds currently find themselves 11 points better off.
Now it’s Liverpool challenging for the title and United struggling to nail down a Europa League spot.
Rodgers believes that transformation is testament to the dedication and commitment of his players.
“If you look over the course of 38 games – the last 10 games of last season and the 28 games this season – we’ve got 12 points more than United, and scored 91 goals as opposed to their 64,” Rodgers told the ECHO.
“That’s no mean feat because no matter what people say about Manchester United and what’s happened, they are still the champions.
“I think it shows the hard work everyone has been doing here to turn the club’s fortunes around. It demonstrates that we’re on the right path and we need to continue working in this way.
“I can never control another club, my thoughts and my life are on Liverpool. The players here have really taken up the mantle.
“What we have now is the belief. In my first six months here we were implementing ideas and different methods of work. We were establishing relationships and now all the personalities have come together and they fully understand how we want to work.
“I understand the players better. There has been an education both on and off the field and that has grown by the day. It’s a really exciting time.”
After enduring two decades of United dominance, Liverpool’s revival this term has sparked talk of a new era in a fierce rivalry.
Rodgers is reluctant to go that far but he knows the stakes are high.
Victory would not only reinforce the Reds’ title credentials, it would also effectively consign United to a first season without Champions League football since 1995.
“I don’t think you can say it’s a new era,” he said.“I would never go as far as saying that. They have dominated football in this country for the past 20 odd years.

“They are still the champions and the season is not over. There’s still an awful lot of work to do – 33 points to play for. For us it’s step by step.
“United have suffered a bit at home this season and they will want to try to put that right. They are coming off the back of a good result against West Brom.
“We respect them because they are very good opponents with some world class players. But we have great confidence and belief at this moment and we aim to continue with that.”
Sixth placed United have won just six of their 13 home league games this season and are on course to record their lowest points total in Premier League history.

Moyes has endured a torrid first year in charge following his move to Old Trafford from Everton as Alex Ferguson’s successor.
Rodgers also replaced a legendary figure in Kenny Dalglish when he arrived at Anfield in June 2012 but says there are few similarities between his situation and Moyes’.
“I think it’s very hard to equate the two,” Rodgers insisted.
“United were winners, they were champions. They won it comfortably last year. I took over a team in eighth position so the jobs are incomparable.
“I have empathy for the pressures and expectancy of being at such a big club but I don’t know all the ins and outs of what goes on there.
“I can only talk about myself in terms of following someone like Kenny who was and still is a legend here. It never intimidated me. I think to manage at this level you’ve got to have self-confidence. You’re not worried about who is sat behind you in the stands.
“In terms of the status of the two clubs, we are the giants of the British game and Liverpool is the most successful.”
The Reds look set to finish above United for the first time in 12 years but Rodgers insists that alone won’t be cause for celebration.
Toppling United is part of the wider target of restoring Liverpool to its former glory.
“The benchmark of this great club is about the best, it’s not about Manchester United,” he said.
“I never said when I came in here I wanted to be fourth. Liverpool will always be judged on being the best – both domestically and in Europe.
“The past success here provides us with great motivation and inspiration to get it back some way to that level. That’s a huge task in the modern game.
“For us there’s still a long way to go in terms of where we want to be but we’re certainly on the right road.”
Sunday will be Liverpool’s first taste of action since the 3-0 win at Southampton a fortnight ago.
Rodgers decided to give his players five days off and believes the second placed Reds will reap the benefits of that break as they look to stay in the title race.
Brendan Rodgers praises Daniel Sturridge

“I felt after the internationals it would be beneficial to give them that time to refocus and recharge the batteries,” he said.
“The players have put in a lot of effort and commitment over the course of this season. They have come back and been excellent this week. They look refreshed. I felt it was important and it has worked out perfectly for us.
“We need to stay calm and focused. My only focus is on Manchester United. That is the way we have approached the season – to win the next game. That won’t change in these last 10 games.”
Liverpool haven’t won at Old Trafford since the memorable 4-1 triumph in 2009 but Rodgers believes his in-form side, who have picked up 23 points out of 27 since the turn of the year, are ready to put that right.
“We’ve gone into a number of games this season where the club hadn’t won at a certain ground for a number of years,” he said.
“We won at Tottenham for the first time in five years and got a first win at Southampton for 11 years. This is the chance for us to put down another marker.
“We played very well in the League Cup game at Old Trafford earlier this season and we were unfortunate not to win the game. We will go there this time in even better form and with even better confidence.
“The biggest thing that has improved here over time has been belief in our methods and that winning mentality. We believe we can go anywhere and win. We have confidence to go and be aggressive in our game in order to achieve that.
“The big games have always brought out the best in this team and hopefully we will see that again on Sunday."

I'll take any win. Scrappy, ugly, lucky.

Will be a very tough game and I'm not looking forward to it.
Can see us conceding a shite set piece goal like in the League cup game.
Hopefully we're ready and break the OT bogey run.

I want us to demolish them, the final nail in the coffin so to speak.

It's difficult to predict these kind of games but I think we'll perform well.
However, we performed well against Man C away and lost, but the same kind of performance won us the game against Spurs away.

Might sound cliché but we need to take our chances in this game and defend well. We need to be all over them in midfield and disrupt their play.

Big difference is Utd have turned up for exactly 1 'big' game this season and middle is super soft. Their team and tactics will play right into our hands. We have the most potent attack in England and arguably Europe. We are fresh, confident hungry and have nothing to lose.
All the pressure is on them and Moyes.

They will need to disrupt our play. Their play is rubbish

The interviews with Rodgers and Kenny were silly before the game, we forget they have some great players, there was absolutely no need to motivate them any more.

This in conjunction with the fact that last i watched "The master" last night and in the last scene Joaquin phoenix repeatedly asks a girls name and it was Winn Manchester....
Talk about jinxy shit...

A win here I would say more or less cements us a spot in the top four, and we have enough of a points cushion from Spurs that we can afford to drop a few points in a tough fixture.

We should be able to beat them handily, but I would be pretty surprised if it wasn't at least close. We've been winning matches of late, but our form itself hasn't been the greatest. Hopefully the long rest does our squad some good.

I see Suarez is giving his missus one from behind for the camera...

Oh dear watch the media pick up on that one..

@MarkmaccaMc: Mingolet.Flanagan Sakho Skrtel Johnson Henderson Allen Gerrard Sterling Suarez Sturridge

To me it was always a toss up between Coutinho and Sterling starting but Agger being left out?
Didn't expect that. Must be his last season with us.

Hopefully Sakho is ready so soon after his injury. The rest of the team looks very good.

After the fools run their passionate little socks off in a high paced derby, Coutinho will step off the ropes like Ali and tell them it's the wrong place to get tired.

Through ball, Sturridge, points.

62?

We're going to win. Early pressure and an early goal. Then. A few more on the break.

Biggest league game in twenty something years....keep focus and we have a chance.....expect to win and we,re fucked.

I honestly cant believe how many people think we'll walk this.
we arent that good away from home and this is a top 6 team.
I think we will lose.
Our defence is wank.

Yeah, I dont get the overconfidence either. It will be tough as hell.

.
Aside from games against the other top four teams we have only lost once on our travels and drawn four.
I don't know how that compares with our rivals but I suspect it is reasonably favourablly
