0-0 HT. Fairly even. We started better, and have generally looked more convincing going forward than we did against Arsenal (not saying much, but still); City were in our pockets for the first half hour, but we've given them a few bites with silly passes around our area and, most of all, by pairing Insua and Babel on the left. As predicted, their RW (Adam Johnson, most of the time) is having a ball.

Gerrard's playing well and our corners look quite threatening - I think we'll score. Just have to tighten up at the back and do something about that left side of defence before it costs us.

I can see why Lucas' passing stats look so good. He does plays a lot of *forward* 5-10yard passes out to the wing.

he doesn't trust purple, after spending 20 mill on him, but he trusts insua for every big game we play.

half time 0-0

reina - 6 - one jittery moment but nothing to really concern him

carra - 7- solid
skrtel - 7- should have scored
agger - 5 - some really odd decisions at the back
insua - 4 - poor

lucas - 4 - one of his worst games in a while
maschr - 6 - bar the yellow, he's had a good game

maxi - 5 - done nothing to stand out
gerrard - 7 - some really good set piece deliveries, and he seems to be trying his best but his teammates are just not very good
babel - 5 - bar one pass, he's not done that poorly. won 2 corners and has showed some nice touches. i hope he gets a goal.

kuyt - 5 - hustling and doing his best, but not getting much service.

Insua hasn't been so bad. They're clearly targeting him, but apart from the odd Johnson cross, not much has come down that side.

Masher deserves a 7, too. He's snuffed out so many City attacks.

Yeah, and always takes an age before doing so, allowing the opposition defenders to get back in position.

On the other hand, Maxi - though physically not right for this league - does have a very quick brain: he sees and executes a pass in the same second.

I hate it when Mascherano passes it to Lucas and he could make a run forwards and then look for a pass but he just passes it straight back to Mascherano. This may have worked when he was playing with Alonso as Xabi is an extremely gifted passer of the ball, javier is not! (although he has improved this aspect of his game quite a lot in recent seasons.)

Are you kidding, squiggs? Insua is an accident waiting to happen in this game. Mind you, Agger's erratic performance alongside him isn't helping, and nor is Babel's inability to defend up ahead of him. If we had, say, Sami and Riera in those positions, Insua wouldn't look half as bad.

Uh, what's with the negativity?

It's been very even match and we've had the best chance of the game.

Bizarre.

Mascher has been our best player so far by a distance, the early yellow may curb his feisty chanllenges though.

Gerrard has looked lively, Kuyt Babel and in particular Maxi havent offered enough of a threat

Lucas has been a liability, so many moves break down as soon as he attempts a pass that isnt a 5 yard sideways ball to Mascherano

If we eliminate te individual errors and get a bit sharper up front this is there for us

Lucas has no confidence in his ability to make an INCISIVE pass.

He always looks half=hearted when he plays a forward pass aimed at creating an attack on goal. He knows he doesn't have the ability and would rather stay in his no-risk sideways passing comfort zone..

Twice during the game he tried and failed, allowing City to break dangerously on one occasion.

hair is annoying. wash it, comb it, wash it, worry about it, gets in your food, keeps traces of your drug intake for moneths afterwards potentially causing you to fail a medical for a job. choose the benderball dude
