Manchester City v Liverpool - Match Thread

They definitely look a way off the side they were a couple years ago.

The games I’ve watched they do look really pedestrian and need 8 chances to score 1. We just seem to be majorly hot and cold. I think the intensity of the season is taking a huge toll on every team.

I hope we get these shitty internationals out of the way and start using our squad a bit more.

We're playing 4-4-2 mate. Firmino and Mo up front, Mane left, Jota right. But yes, it does mean Mane and Jota have more ground to cover to get into goal-scoring areas

Jota makes runs that are hard for any defense to pick up on ... and when you have Mane & Salah doing that, it's just a matter of time before we get opportunities to score goals ... Firmino playing stops that ... We should have gone with a similar team as we did against Atalanta, but we neglected our hottest player to accomodate Bobby.

I know this sounds like a "bobby" vendetta - but it isn't ... I just feel our team is better with Jota, who can press like Bobby, who's a bit wasteful with the pass like Bobby but who unlike Bobby, has tremendous speed and is always in dangerous areas in the box.

There's a reason Bobby came off in the 2nd half ...

I think klopp got it wrong slightly today but that said our front 3/4 in the first half should've and could've scored a couple , think second half we just surrendered the middle of the park

Based on the first 8 games I think our biggest challengers will be Chelsea.

It will come down who avoids the most injuries with this insane fixture congestion.

Henderson didn't seem to play as deep as he does usually today ? Would be interested in seeing his heat map , maybe he just went missing at times ?

Yeah the league is starting to shake out. Us, Leicester, Chelsea, Spurs and (eventually) City. Scum look like they may need a while longer to make it a six

We played with a midfield two for much of the game and so different role

I thought we played well and we were the better side. I just looked at three different interviews with Guardiola and I could barely understand a word. He's a really weird bloke.

Considering our injury problems; to be one point off top having played Chelsea, City, Everton and Arsenal (3 of them away) in our first 8 games is a decent position to be in.

Actually after today I feel as though we have the best chance of winning the league out of all the teams, think the biggest challenge will be Spurs and I would discount Leicester at this stage mainly because they are a different proposition without Vardy, and I think Spurs for the moment look good but will struggle if one of Song or H.Kane are out of action for a while. If we can hold the shit together in defence we should be ok, but today is actually one point gained compared to last season so I am pleased, because honestly I was expecting us to lose.

Four of Spurs next five are City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool.

I predict the table will see them a little lower after that.

A draw away to City is always a good result, even in the context of them looking quite flat so far this year. Between the penalty and the Jesus header they probably had the better chances to nick it but it wasnt a great game by either side. Both sets of players looled kind of leggy and by 60 mins it seemed like one of those world cup matches where a draw is good enough for both teams to qualify so nobody goes hunting for a winner.

Matip comimg back is a massive bonus, his minutes will need to be managed and hopefully we get Fabinho and Thiago back after the break to add a bit more quality into midfield. Speaking of which, the 4-2-4 formation probably has its place but away to Man City isnt it. The pattern seemed to be that we surprised them early on bit once they adjusted they had the better of it. There was just far too much ground for Henderson and Wjinaldum to cover.

Allison MotM for me, some very smart goalkeeping at times to keep us in it.

I was thinking exactly the same last night. Then I looked at Spurs who have had two great results (2-5 at Southampton and 1-6 United) and then some very strange results. If we take the anomaly out of our results we have been very very consistent and with just a little more luck/better finishing could have won all of the games we've drawn too.

I'm a fan of Matip (when he's blimin fit), but anyone else think he can do better on their goal? As in attempt to slide tackle and bloke Jesus's shot?
