That is Matip's glaring weakness for me.

What? He's been out for ages. Match fit and he then has the match sharpness to find another yard and be quicker to get a challenge in. Given hes barely played regularly for ages and it was away to our main competitor, he did really well. Gomez makes those sort of lapses while playing week in, week out. Its not a glaring weakness at all.

You could see that there was too much space for our two midfielders to cover, and De Bruyne cleverly took up space out wide where there was a huge pocket.
By then they had sniffed out our custom formation and was starting to take advantage of it.

With a midfield 3 if one person incorrectly presses, then there's someone else to usually pick up the slack. In this case, with a midfield 2 and mane not getting back, gini had too much to do.

The formation was found out in that moment, and I wonder if that's why we weren't as aggressive in the pressing in their half after that moment

I'm a fan of Matip (when he's blimin fit), but anyone else think he can do better on their goal? As in attempt to slide tackle and bloke Jesus's shot?

Was texting my brother in Canada throughout the match, and we both couldn't figure out the lack of a slide-tackle there... He'd have probably blocked the shot if he'd slid. Very frustrating.

It WAS a well worked goal, mate... Of course. But I also think that Matip could've blocked it if he'd slid in. They're both fair points.

Jesus reacted faster ... no way in hell Matip would have been able to get there ahead of Jesus unless he had a substantially faster reaction time (none of us were considering Jesus making a Cruyff turn, I'm sure Matip wasn't), which was nigh on impossible, and he had more ground to cover. Watched in real time not slo-mo it's an instant. Very very harsh to blame Matip at all.

Disagree, mate. he was almost there, as is... A slide, and I'm 100%convinced that he'd have made the block.
