Manchester City v Liverpool - Match Thread

One point each. A good point to have but I'm a bit disappointed about the performance.

Gotta say Shaq was shit when he came on. Maybe because we were settling for the draw but he couldn't get get himself going at all. I'd have took that before the game but still feel a bit disappointed we were so conservative.

We started well enough but once City settled we just couldn't find any kind of platform to create chances.

A point is not a bad result and I'd have been reasonably happy with that before the game but it now it feels a bit disappointing. It felt like a winnable game and Klopp, unfortunately, got it wrong.

Firmino is looking at the end of his career as a first choice pick if things don't pick up for him soon. Klopp talked him up in the press and put his faith in him again today and was forced to hook him again (though this time the system wasn't really doing anyone any favours).

Yeah, he is pretty useless when he is stuck in our half chasing the ball. If we had wanted to suck it up we should have brought Keita on instead.

formation didn't work, except for the first 15 minutes when city struggled.

probably been better to go with Jones/Keita whoever in the third midfield spot.

Can't agree, we had the chances we just didn't take them, we should have been 2 or 3 up in the first 30 mins, then able to close the game off. I think Gini struggled a little in the two man midfield which let them back in the game. Shame, but still a good and fair result.

The forwards fed on scraps in the second half and we hardly looked like creating a chance never mind a goal. A few of the reasons for this were the midfielders were outnumbered and were looking for longer balls rather than play one two's etc, the full backs stayed back most of the second half and when Trent went off I think he took most of our ambition with him. Might have been better if the forwards had played narrower and been able to play with each other as they were isolated far too often. Not a bad point but 8 points clear of city at this point would have really had our foot on their neck.

Happy with a draw but can't help thinking we should have been abit more adventurous. Jota should have finished off one of his chances in his current form, especially the one where Edersen fluffed his lines.

I was OK with a draw in the last 20 minutes, we clearly lost focus so at that point it was just hoping we are not the team who will make a decisive mistake. Annoying to not be top at the International break, but it’s more important that we’re 5 points ahead of City.

Good game by us, and a good result. Getting a draw at the Ethiad after losing there the last three years is - good.

We go again.

The players looked tired at the end.
Looking forward to three games in an international week now, not..

I thought Shaq was fine individually, but bringing him on just when the front players tired and we were not making as many runs in behind was a bit pointless.

We were very conservative in the second half. We didn’t see either Henderson or wijnaldum getting box to box. As someone else said, the rest were fed on scraps. We did keep them down to 2 shots on target and they did miss sitters with Jesus and the pen.

We started off like a house on fire and if we had a fully fit Firmino we’d have been out of sight in 15 minutes. Thank fuck we got Jota because if we had the usual front 3 we would struggle to get number 20.

Good result considering how dire we were after we scored. Happy with the point.

I bet Brendan is going to enjoy being top of the table with Leicester for 3 weeks. The portrait just got bigger.

Not me. The first half we were great but we have to take into consideration that these players are now playing match after match with barely 3 days in between. That has to take it's toll and we saw it today ... for both teams.

I feel we would have had a much better chance had we started Firmino with Keita/Shaq behind at the point of the midfield and then bring on Jota & Keita/Shaq with 30 mins to go. But still, can't argue with a point at City.

The fume are pissed with their performance but not fuming. That pisses me off. A good proportion of them think they are shot and have no chance of challenging.

They definitely look a way off the side they were a couple years ago.
