So the big day is here, cannot wait for this game, I think it'll be a cracker, I expect us to bring home a draw or a low loss, ie 1-0, 2-1. It's on the BBC also which is fantastic, I wish they got more rights for the Carling Cup and FA Cup.

Anyone had any team news? I'd like

Maybe bring Adam in, but I think Shelvey was good enough in the FA cup game to deserve another go, and I'm not even a Shelvey fan!

We we're ravaged by injury when he played there in the Pompey game years ago. Theres no way Kenny will play him there with Gerrard, Shelvey, Adam, Hendo and Spearing all available. Get out of it Modo! 😉
 
I really look forward to the game. we have kept the ball well in the matches against City and can build on that tonight. I wish for a good result ahead of the second leg which is on my 40th birthday!!!

.....and he was also found out in the second half, they kept forcing onto his right foot and it was more or less game over for him, as great a player as he is.

Indeed it is, and indeed he will, I expect Downing and Carragher to start, probably Spearing too.

Ive brought in Kelly to help out on set pieces and ive gone for 3 mobile players in support of Carroll to give us a bit more penetration this time.

Replace Adam with Gerrard and put Maxi in the team and that would be how I'd go.
 
I'd be surprised if Downing starts, in light of everything. I think with everything that's gone on we'll be looking to take him out of the limelight and not be seen to be courting controversy (again).

Adam has looked knackered of late, would probably thrive from some time off. Downing looked good the last time against City in my opinion and he really should play with Carroll in the mix. Move Gerrard into his preferred positon and VOILA will win. Been disappointed with both Kuyt and Maxi's last outings so wouldn't mind see them starting on the bench.

this will sound defeatist but the height of my ambition tonight is having something to play for next week.

I must admit he did. He threw away our best chance, however it looks like he'd been tasked to run at the City defence and he did, a couple of times he got joy out of it, just no end product.

However we'll have Bellamy in the side (I hope) and he'll do this and do it ten times better and carry an end product.

Yaya, Kompany and Kolo is out. Silva is a doubt.
 
I'd play Gerrard on the right of a 4231 and let him both roam and pull wide to whip in some quality balls for Carroll.

Yaya and Kompany out which is grand. Ballotelli, Dzeko and Silva are also doubts, but that would be a little too good to be true! Barry is back from suspension.
