Manc match thread

Is Skrtel getting off lightly for the Martial goal? We'd still be picking up Lovren's carcass all over this forum if he had been turned inside out like that.

Skrtel had an absolute shocker. He was a mess.

I'm not saying BR is blameless, but there were a number of very poor performances out there. We looked determined to feed them chances with inept play throughout the first half, Skrtel and Ming looked like they'd shared a bag of magic mushrooms before the game or something, and Gomez gifted them that penalty.

Milner was fucking shite too. Seems to be escaping criticism.

Yep. I'm a big Milner fan but called out that he was muck in the match thread.

Skrtel shouldn't have bothered getting out of bed. Fucking awful. Can only imagine if Lovren had played that poorly how many threads would have been started.

But the difference is, Lovren spent much of last season fucking up in practically every game and then he fucked up last week too. Skrtel's the pick of a shite bunch but the reason he doesn't get as much flack is because he spends the majority of games mopping up after everyone else and he has shown good form for lengthy spells throughout his Liverpool career. He's also got an infinitely better attitude than Lovren.

That said, he's looked a yard off the pace since the Summer and his reaction times seem to have slowed down, it happens. The issue is still with the defensive set up (or lack of) and the fact that Mignolet and Lovren are hapless.

I wouldn't say Skrtel has been that good over his career, Mark. This is his 9th season with us. He's had 2 good seasons, maybe 3 if we're being generous. The rest of the time he has been average. I'd say Sakho is at least as good as him based on what I've seen so far, with the potential to be a better player than him in the future. Even if Sakho doesn't fulfil that promise, I know that Skrtel isn't the answer. 9 years of mediocrity isn't good enough.

Lovren is a fucking car crash.

I like Skrtel overall and he is far and away our best defender. The problem is that is not saying very much and, in fact, he was awful on the weekend.

Surprised the flack Skrtel is getting. Yes he was poor, like everyone else but for most part he's been our best defender in his time at the club and has some amazing displays.

His attitude is second to none and some of his last ditch tackling is as good as you'll get.

It's just a shame he never had a Hyppia or a Ferdinand beside him.

Carragher, Hyypia and Agger have all been better than him. I believe Sakho could be. He's just not very good. The fact that he will likely be here for over ten years as a "stalwart" shows how far we have fallen. He's not very good.

Those last ditch tackles usually come from him being woefully out of position.

Can't necessarily agree with ah agger being better, but otherwise yeah, I agree
