I'd take Redknapp in a heart beat... good manager, good football and good at buying good players often for cheap.

Rijkaard, Redknapp, Mourinho for me if push comes to shove, preferably someone who plays great football.

wow. carra/dalglish as manager. bloody hell.

We did better under Phil Thompson than under Houllier during that period when the latter was ill. Wouldn't have lasted, but you shouldn't underestimate the power of emotion in the short term.

Anyone who just regurgitates the myth that Jose's teams play shite football obviously didn't watch his Chelsea side rip the league apart week in week out, not to mention being able to grind wins out when not playing well. Regardless, it's about winning football not 'attractive' football. Jose would be ideal and I think he'd be arrogant enough to take the task on. Plus he'd love the fans.

We could also go in the other direction and bring in a young and up and coming manager, maybe one with past links to the club. It worked for Barca.

If we needed a caretaker manager until summer I'd go for Houllier.

With Roy Evans as joint manager?

Harry Fucking Redknapp

I give it a week before somebody mentions Nicol again.

No, that's a silly suggestion.
True. Houllier it is then. Kuyt can be his Heskey.

Have you been drinking paint thinner or something?
Probably. For a minute I thought I actually said Houllier should take over as caretaker manager, but that would be stupid.

http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Liverpool-s-Tom-Hicks-tells-Jurgen-Klinsmann-You-will-never-manage-Reds-article262977.html

Liverpool co-owner Tom Hicks has told Jurgen Klinsmann he will NEVER manage Liverpool.

The Anfield hierarchy have been stunned by the German's recent attempts to undermine Rafa Benitez and offer himself up as the perfect replacement.

Klinsmann, who was sounded out about succeeding Benitez two years ago when the Spaniard was embroiled in a dispute with the club's two American owners, gave a damning assessment of Liverpool's team on a Champions League television show.
He followed that up with a newspaper interview in Germany in which he claimed he could be Anfield-bound next summer.

And when Sunday Mirror Sport asked Hicks whether Klinsmann would ever be considered as a future Liverpool manager, his reply was an emphatic: "Never."
Hicks added: "I don't know what his (Klinsmann's) motives are."

Benitez, who is less than 12 months into a five-year contract, has been told he has the full support of Liverpool's owners despite an early Champions League exit and six Premier League defeats this season.

Klinsmann, 45, forged himself a reputation as one of the game's best up-and-coming coaches when he took Germany to the 2006 World Cup semi-finals.

He was an advocate of attacking football and his personality and communication skills helped him become a popular global figure.

The following year, with Benitez's future in doubt following a power struggle with Liverpool's then chief executive Rick Parry, he was approached by Gillett as a possible replacement.

Klinsmann met with Gillett, Hicks and Parry in the United States but, once the crisis at Anfield had ended, he was appointed coach of Bayern Munich.

His reign in Bavaria lasted less than a season and Benitez has since viewed his attempts to undermine him at Liverpool with as much amusement as derision given the way he was dumped by Bayern.

he's got 0 votes so far ... let's see how long that lasts.

I'm surprised mousier Blanc hasn't got a single vote. He's worked wonders with Bordeaux although it seems likely UTD or Inter will be where he's off. Oh ye i've added another option.
Why?
Because the job already took him beyond the limit of his capabilities once before. Appointing him again would be flogging a whole team of dead horses. The King would be my choice if we were to need a caretaker, though not as a permanent appointment.

Laurent Blanc is a great shout. He has done a fantastic job.

I want Mourinho though.

As angry as I am right now, I think some of those names are an insult to Rafa.

The only choice is a manager who's actually won the Premier League.

Rafa has after all, won everything else.

I do NOT want to see Carra in the management picture. He's a great player who may have a great future in management but right now I don't think he's the right decision for us and I think he looks somewhat jaded on the pitch.

Talk about narrowing your options! So... Ferguson, Wenger, Mourinho, Dalglish, or... erm, Howard Wilkinson it is.

Bear in mind that the new manager will inherit:

Reina

Johnson ----- Agger ------

Mascher
Gerrard Aquialani

-------- ------
Torres

Subs: ---CF---, Ngog, Kuyt, Flossy, [Riera], --MF---, Kelly, [Aurelio], [Sktel], ---CB---, [Cavalry]

Not matter who comes in buying 4 top class first teamers and, at least, three decent bench options is mission impossible even if reasonably funded.

Seeing as though some are plopping for Carra, Redknapp and Hodgson, I recon we should take a look at Curbishley, Keegan, Ince, Dario Gradi, Robson, Southgate, or Allardyce.

Harry's facing legal proceedings over a tax issue. Anyone knows what would happen to him if he is found guilty?

I'll get in on the game of adding mad names to the list.

Ryan Giggs.

He's won everything and he must have some great interpersonal skills as can be demonstrated by his BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.

I don't know if anyone has commented on this in another thread and it's not directly about who might replace Rafa, but on MOTD Hansen said something which has today been quoted on the BBC football live text page thus;

Here's what Reds legend Alan Hansen made of it on Match of the Day: "Rafael Benitez is under immense pressure. Internally they say he is safe until the end of the season, but it's the results that put you under pressure and Liverpool's results have been abysmal."

I like to think that whatever comes from Hansen on such matters is unlikely to be speculative given his friendship with Kenny so the position is, hopefully, straightforward; no sacking mid-season but his position is not safe beyond that.
