Managers to Replace Benitez

If Benitez goes who would you want in, I've tried to pick managers who would come as opposed to who we would likebut won't get. I've put Hiddink in although I just don't think he's got it. My preference is Mourinho, we need to win the league and this man has done it. He's also proven he work within limited funds Porto won the Euro Cup.

One idea which hasn't been mooted is Carra as player manager, I know he's doing his badges at the moment. He's through and through Liverpool. He knows what it means to play for the club, he also has an unhealthy obsession with football in general. I get the impression that he has the attitude to be a manager so if we are fucked for a manager or money for a manager its something we could look at.

I put Marcus Babel in there as well I know he was sacked this year but he came close to winning the bundesliga last season.

Jose for me.

I'd shit my pants if Carra got the job unproven as he is. It's just far too risky.

Mourinho's the clear top choice, but I'd be surprised if he came here. As for the rest, I'd be content with Blanc, Rijkaard or Hodgeson.

I doubt Rafa's going anywhere though.

Out of the list I think Mourinho, Rijkaard, MoN, Blanc and Laudrup all have the potential to do well with us.

No need to wait an hour:

1831: BREAKING NEWS: Manchester City have confirmed the sacking of manager Mark Hughes, and announced the appointment of Roberto Mancini as his replacement.

Why?
Is he going to guide us to a league title?
What has he achieved as a manager?

I'm so jealous, at least City have done what they needed to and made the change.

I nearly accidentally reported this to the mods, finger slipped.

I could like with Hodgson, Rijkaard or Hiddink.
Yea I'd probably go with Hodgson or Rijkaard for realistic options.
Can't see us getting Hiddink, Jose or MO'N in the current climate.

rijkaard. if we change manager then i want someone completely different.

*high fives Skully*

He'd give the coolest post match interviews too

If reality is no object I pick Capello.
Then Lippi.
Then Mourinho.

In reality the managers who relative to their constraints have so far this year outperformed Rafa are:
Ancelloti
Fergie
O'neill
Redknapp
Mcleish
Hodgeson
Pullis
and
Coyle.

This team is failing and although there are a tonne of reasons for this failure the buck stops at Rafa and he is cutting an increasingly pathetic and tragic figure as he fucks around and fumbles for a way out of this mess. He needs to go, and someone else given a go.
5 years in charge and a million miles from the title. Not good enough by half

Rijkaard please. Not only do we need a better manager, we need someone who's handled star players before. I can easily see Torres, Mascherano and Reina leaving if we appoint Hodgson. Not to mention the fact that he's 62 already - too old.

If Rafa was to go now what would people think of Trappatoni as a short term measure, even till season end.
I am amazed what a good job he done with Rep of Ireland and he has had lots of success at club level. I doubt if his team would be that pleasing on the eye but they would be well motivated.

Isn't he like 100 years old now?

Mourinho is a winner who knows the Premiership and would lift the side. My only concern is that his football wasn't exactly inspiring even though it was very effective. Not sure I could deal with another decade of turgid stuff. If we're not going to win, lets at least play well and deservedly lose.

As for Rijkaard, I like his style and the fact he'd probably change our formation from 4-5-1 to 4-3-3. Gerrard, Mascher, Aquilani is a midfield 3 to rival anyone in Europe. Attacking fullbacks in Johnson + another. Torres playing in that Eto lone forward role. With PROPER quality support from the wings (i presume he'd bring in 2 quality wide players). It's a formation i'd love to see us play. Dominating teams with EFFECTIVE possession, rather than the ineffectual sideways stuff.

Read the question again.
I wasn't asking how old you thought he was. 😉

Amen to that. I can see Rijkaard fucking off Lucas and Insua asap, which I'm not sure the others on the list would. That's good enough for me presently.

it does help that he speaks spanish and english and dutch so gerrard, torres, reina, and kuyt would be happy.and a black dutch manager could turn ryan babel in to a super star ;D

Even better. Sign me up for the Rijkaard bandwagon.
Thats what Rafa should have done......sometime in the past 3 years, instead of signing Zenden, Gonzales, Nunez.....and any other cunt with a z in his name.

We'd still be playing two defensive midfielders all the time. It would be no different.

Actually that's something I wondered about, when did Lucas become a defensive midfielder ? Is he one by default because he can't attack ?

I know the football wouldn't change too much Ross but I think the results would as he would get the team playing again.
To be honest i am becoming increasingly worried about where our future is going, especially as it is looking more and more likely that we won't be in the Champs league next year.
Desperate times call for desperate measures etc.
