Alberto and Aspas!! Isn't this the competition these guys were signed for, the league cup?? I just don't get it, bizarre signings. And a 12m striker on loan somewhere! Same shit different manager!
Borini and Shelvey are better than Aspas and Alberto.

Oncy said Rodgers is afraid to take off or leave out certain players like Lucas, Gerrard and Sturridge. Am I speaking fucking Swahili or something?

I thought you knew I meant leave out Gerrard and Lucas and sub Sturridge.
I thought I was pretty clear regarding each player and the overarching problem.

On the plus side, United were utter shit again in the main part.
useless finishing from Toure, Moses, Henderson and Sturridge aside we would have won 3 or 4 / 1 tonight.

On the other plus side Suarez was brilliant.

Well I refuse to be downhearted. Credit where it's due, the Manager got the team selection and tactics spot on. The 3-5-2 looks very promising and we looked a better outfit than the champions and on their own turf. The blame for not winning that is squarely on the shoulders of the strikers. Even though I think Benitez is a better Manager, Rodgers did everything that could be expected of him.

I thought Sturridge was laughable tonight.
He should have been taken off.
Gerrard has been dreadful all season, he looks so lazy. He needs a sit down.

100% right. Gerrard really needs a word in his ear. I never dislike him more as captain than when he's going through these kinds of games. He can't dominate so much these days, but in his frustration about that he blasts the ball at teammates and then scowls at them as if they're so much his technical inferiors it's generous of him to stick with them on the pitch. His favourite conceit is to run towards a teammate on the edge of the opposing penalty area, blast the ball at their shins at close range, and then stare at them when the ball balloons off. Tonight he was over-hitting balls down the right wing and standing, hands on hips, as if a glorious pinpoint pass had been squandered. He needs a really, really, good long talk from someone who'll cut through the crap.

I agree in the main part Jex. I would have taken Sturridge off but im nitpicking because he was terrible.
We matched them all night and should really have won.
We're going to win a lot of games this year.

For the first time EVER tonight there were times when I watched him move towards an opponent so he couldnt recieve the ball. Players only do that when they are mentally exhausted. Ive never seen Gerrard do it, but today he did.
A name wont win us games.

I'm not sure they beat us, we beat ourselves as far as I could see.
Doesn't really matter mate. If we play our full team in order to get a 'confidence boost' from winning, then we sure as hell better not lose if the opposition decides to play a weakened team.

We've given them a massive confidence boost by losing an ultimately meaningless cup game.

I don't think Sturridge looks fit, in fairness. If he's injured and we're not willing to give a fringe player a go after spending the money, then it was all a bit pointless.

I agree. We had to start the season with him, unfit, and then once he started scoring goals we couldn't really drop him, but now we seem to be nursing him from game to game when he ought to be at the peak of his powers. It's only a month into the season! If he's got niggles then leave him out to get rid of them. There's a long road ahead.

I reckon he just needs to swap Gerrard and Henderson around.

Gerrard is crap so deep and Henderson is crap on the wing.

Other than that I thought we could have won.

I hope Moses is better than I've seen so far. And his hair is fucking shit. It's really up to one of his mates to tell him he's going bald and to shave it off.

If we play 3-5-2 again on Sunday, lets do it with Henderson and Allen instead of Gerrard and Lucas.

- A loss was probably unfair. Both sides weren't great. A draw would have been about right.

- For all our possession and pressing, we created about 2 reasonable chances. That points to a major lack of creativity in the side. We got nothing from wide tonight, and Moses is clearly not a No.10

- For someone who see's SO much of the football, Jose Enrique does fuck all with it. He frustrates the life out of me.

- Rodgers left it far too late to switch the 3-5-2 out. After the goal, United gave up as an attacking force. He should have dragged one of the CB's straight away, and thrown someone into the 10 spot. Alberto, Gerrard, pull Suarez back. He took too long.

- I thought Lucas was the best player on the ground in the first 45. He got hooked cos he looked shattered and was about to get sent off. Preventing the red card thing I can understand, but why is he and others so fucking tired after half-time? Are they sparking up fat ones in the dressing room at half-time or something?

- We got in behind Buttner and Rafael about 4 or 5 times in the first half and that's where all our best attacks and opportunities came from. We didn't even try it once in the second half. Bizarre.

- Poor from Sturridge but that happens strikers sometimes. He was right to stay on the pitch. If we'd have hooked him for Aspa or whomever, you'd all have been up in arms.

- Suarez picking the ball up in the hole and running at them in that 2nd half was a joy to watch.

- Gerrard not at fault for the goal. In any form of zonal marking, be it full zonal, or semi-zonal with a few bits of man-marking (as it was tonight) the zonal players are only allowed to move forward towards the ball. You can't run backwards in a zone. If you've played in zonal corner defending, this is pretty much rule #1. Gerrard did the right thing and attacked it, we got fucked cos he had no one behind him doing the same thing. Not Gerrard's fault.

- Sterling looks atrocious. Time for someone else to get a run off the bench.

- We better beat Sunderland.

Why did Kelly come on?

Did Brendan feel the need to have 4 centre backs on the pitch again?

I don't care what anyone says - I can't stand Enrique.

Is Gerrard protecting himself for the World Cup? I'm sure I've noticed a trend of more restrained performances when big international tournaments are looming.

I'll say it again - we don't have enough attacking quality to mount any sort of sustained challenge in the League.

Suarez & Sturridge don't compliment each other & Sturridge isn't comfortable in a wide role.

We should just hand the ball to their keeper for a goal kick whenever we get a corner - we are awful at corners - can't take 'em, can't defend 'em.

I hate losing to that shower of shite.
