Man of the match - Game 12 - Tottenham Hotspur - Home - EFL

In terms of general team management I'd be tempted to say Lucas. As a captain he was brilliant, and as a stand-in CB he was remarkably good for most of the time.
Problem is as pointed out by the analysis he Lucas decided to have about 3 to 5 kicks before the ref gave the penalty. What was going through his head ?

Which was Lucas all over. 89 minutes of maturity and a good calming influence, and then 1 minute of complete stupidity where he had to kick out for a ball that was going away from goal, completely unnecessarily. Story of his career. Which is a shame because for the rest of the game he was brilliant.

I thought Lucas was quite poor apart from his motivating of the younger players. That was a very poor Tottenham second team who were laughably impotent up front. Our defence was never overly tested but twice Lucas lost the ball whilst trying to move up field (the second time was 2 minutes before their penalty) and against better teams he'd have been punished.

Sturridge
Origi
Stewart

No one has mentioned his two passes from defence in the second half that almost lead to two goals. That's how hateful/spiteful people are. It's fucking embarrassing to see Pesam highlight two misplaced passes by Lucas.

It wasn't 2 missed-placed passes, he was carrying the ball forward into the opposition half and lost possession which is criminal when you're now out of position and leaving a makeshift defence behind you under pressure. Thankfully Spurs team last night was useless and not good enough to take advantage. Add to that the stupid attempt at a tackle which gave away a (very harsh) penalty and that totally negates one or two good passes.

I've never failed to praise Lucas when he's had good games and I've never criticised his attitude, the fact that I think he's a very overrated player (by some posters) has nothing to do with the fact that I think he was average at best against a very weak team.

I'm not gonna drown this thread with Lucas talk. He's an average player and he had imo a top 3 performance yesterday especially since he was playing in defence. Yes he fucked up a few times, but he was still very good.

I thought he was very good. He missed out on top 3 for me because that was daft, and I'm afraid, typical Lucas in the giving away of the peno. Yes, yer man made a meal of it and it was a debatable decision, but there didn't need to be a debate. He gave the ref a decision to make, and had no need to nibble away at Lamela.

Lucas was excellent apart from the pen, which I didn't think was one.
Origi played well and Sturridge.
But for me it's Gini – what a player he already is for us. Outstanding.

Yeah, I was slow to appreciate him but was very impressed yesterday. He's like an invisible stitching service for patterns of play. Subtle, precise, quick and judicious passing and movement, not just keeping everything ticking over but also developing it. Aside from two or three occasions when he seemed to stand and expect a ball to go out rather than anticipate and chase it, he was very good indeed last night.

Yep, I said in the match thread that he is quietly going about his business. I expect him to start scoring a few goals soon, he's gone close for us a few times.

Problem with Wijnaldum is that he sometimes overestimates his ability to hold off players. Not the strongest guy in world. But as long as he keeps moving the ball with pace he's top quality.

Can't remember what Souey or Jamie said in the studio but it made me laugh - something like how many opportunities is he going to give the ref to award the penalty - he kicked him about three times at least and every occasion missed the ball - just went for the leg.
