Man City match thread

Yay, and we make the 40 point barrier. This was a complete team performance-- why can't we do this most matches?

Somewhat proves that we have a shitload of players who can't handle the big occasion.

We bottled every must win match under Rodgers, I suggest it's the mentality of many of these players that causes the capitulation when it matters most.

Like the game against City at home in the league?

That game further highlighted Hendersons deficiencies , his work rate only carries him so far.

He really needs a shot in the arm , as his performance levels are nowhere near where we or he needs them to be

We should try to bring back the diamond, it could compliment the players quite nicely, also we could have both Studge upfront and Firmino alongside him, as he is clearly wasted on the flank

Might be worth it to drop Hendo and play Lallana in midfield. He seems to enjoy playing through the middle.
This line up:
-------------------Mignolet

Clyne------Lucas----------Touré---------Flanno

--------------Can-----------Milner

-----------------Lallana
Firmino-----------------------------Coutinho
-------------------Sturridge

Btw major kudos to those who believed in the team and thought we'd win this game.

The league is so shite this season that if we win our game in hand we could be 3 points behind 4th

Eh, that's discounting the fact that City also have a game in hand. If they win theirs, the gap is still 6. We'll have to proceed in smaller steps - catch United first (we're level on points if we win our game in hand), then West Ham (1 point further) and then we can think about City. If we beat Palace away this weekend, then I'll allow myself a little bit of hope. Palace are on an atrocious run right now, winless in 11 games (4 draws, 7 defeats), but we've been so good for teams in a funk to play against, there's every chance of us being turned over after a high like tonight.

I was amazed at how close we are even after the season we've had

Lets not fall into the game in hand torture trap though

We're 6pts behind Utd too.

We've earned 7 points from 3 league games for only the second time this season - the last time we did that was at the start of the season. We've also not managed three consecutive league wins since about the same time last year (last win streak was 5, from 10 Feb to 16 Mar last year). We really could use a good run of league results to close out the season.

One of those teams have won a cup and then you coast through a game against them. Glad we beat them but as hollow as hell.

Heh.

Anyway, I think you're harsh on him, or you've gone early, or both.

Yeah it's definitely been a case of going too early and now trying to make it stick.

I like Firmino personally. He's a classy player.

Lallana, Origi and Firmino were all boss. The defence was solid. Toure, Lovren and Flan should keep their place. Henderson over hit everything, I suppose you could let him off coz it was so windy but he's been like this since he came back. Much rather see Allen there at the minute. It is a tough one with Lallana, given you would have to start Sturridge against the mancs, but he was involved in everything tonight.

So... Is Lallana a guaranteed starter for anyone else yet?
I've no problem with Lallana starting for us anyway. I've always admired his attitude and passion. Combine that with his silky touches and you've got a player we can all get behind* and support.

*cue the gkmacca pic.

Hmmmmm - Some of you lot must be feeling a little silly. Me and @Mamma Mia and a few others saw the bigger picture. I fucking knew we'd win tonight. I just wish I'd visited William Hill. 😗

I thought to a man we were fantastic tonight. We totally outfought them despite the best efforts of peanut head Kompany to ruffle our feathers and the little kickey horse shithouse Navas, who should have been sent off doing his best Buckaroo impression. We totally outplayed them. For the money they've spent, they're an embarrassment. Sterling in shit.

We looked better at the back without dumbo Moreno as well.

I understand the frustration that we didn't show the same attitude on Sunday but I don't think it was a meaningless match or result.
