Game isnt until tomorrow, but we played a behind the doors friendly vs Felda today, which just finished.

Fulton, Wisdom, Touré, Sakho, Maguire, Ojo, Rossiter, Chirivella, Markovic, Teixeira, Ings.

Won 7-0 with Ings 3, Ojo, Markovic, Chirivella and Teixeira.

The Malaysian team tomorrow will apparently be weakned as some players wont be made available.

Has this pre season been to easy? After the Malaysian team we play Helsiniki.

It's a awful pre season against absolute dross. Some players may only get 1 friendly game. Surprised we only arranged the 5 games, with the odd behind closed doors game. Much better opposition last pre season. Hope it does t come back to bite us. We should have arranged to play real, Roma and city in australia

Maybe the thinking is that it gives the coaches more time with the players rather than preparing for games, there won't be much time for that once we get into a season filled with Thursday-Sunday fixtures. I realise this was planned before the coaching setup changed, but it might work out for the best.

Not forgetting also - we start the 15/16 season 8 days earlier than in the past 2 seasons. That additional week accounted for 2 more pre-season games but that wasn't an option this time.

Yeah last year's pre season worked a treat.
Was just the perfect starting block to a magical season.

Haha indeed. The fixture list for pre season games for the 13/14 season was quite similar to this years bar games against Celtic and Olympiacos.
So playing Real, Roma, Utd etc means fuck all...

Some players will only get one game because they've just returned to training after International commitments. We play a friendly on 01/08 and then the season kicks off a week later, it's standard scheduling.

We travel too much. 30,000 miles. 10,000 than any of the other premiership teams.

It makes it even worse when it's planned so amateurishly. Apparently the Thailand stage of the tour was way down in numbers of fans because of poor and late advertising, and while the Australian leg went well it didn't seem to come with the precise commercial strategy that characterised the previous visit there, and now we have a Malaysian game that's been boycotted by some managers because they think the match 'will only enrich the match promoters'. We're supposed to be good now at the marketing side of the club but this has all been a bit lazy.

With all due respect, I don't believe you're correct regarding the Australian leg.

The commercial activity has been much more prominent - more local sponsors jumping onboard, more of an emphasis on selling official merchandise and ramped up fan interaction.

Shrimps got thrown on all sorts of barbies. It was mad!

It's not 10k more, it's actually only a few hundred more than City. United are pretty close to our distance too. Substantially more than Chelsea & I think Arsenal though.

I believe I'm correct in saying it was played on a weekday (and last time was a weekend) and with heavy rains forecast, which duly arrived as scheduled ... if you've ever been in a tropical storm you'l know what heavy rain means so it's no surprise the crowd was well down !

I don't think anyone can blame us for something we have no control over - the Malaysian FA have an ongoing dispute with the Selangor FA, hence Selangor pulling out their players. Nothing to do with Liverpool FC.

From what I understand the club will start in a 3 year cycle of somewhere new, America, then Asia from next season.

This is because trips to America currently come just after either the World Cup or the Euros - so many players are unavailable.

Not sure where the new pre-season destination will be next season - but somewhere closer to home would make sense.

13k more than Utd according to this, and yes 3k more than City. 10K more than Arsenal and more for the rest

Thanks Jack. I thought United had more with their coast to coast matches, obviously not. I forgot Arse went to Singapore, that bumps up the Air Miles coupons. City are obviously close because they are also Down-under, but without the side-trips to Thailand and Malaysia.

Well the fans' rep said it had more to do with a decline in the club's popularity over there, a perceived lack of recognisable stars and a shorter lead-in time in terms of pre-publicity.

I read from the fans view over there that it was a combination of all three.
Weekday game, meaning fans would have to take two days off to see the game. Which wasnt possible for loads of fans.
Late confirmation of when the game was played.
And lack of star players. I e Coutinho being there would have ment more fans in the stands.

So as you say, poor planning and a bit unfortunate Coutinho and the new lads werent there.
Gerrard was also probably a huge miss. We havent got anyone even close to him.

I'm sure it has been discussed but I can't remember. Did Lovren randomly pick that name for his clothes?
