Madrid get Real over Suarez swoop

The more he opens his gob in the press the more confusing it sounds.
I'll be happy if he stays as he's the best player in the league, but if decides to go then we've got a great chance of building a great team with the money.

In the end, I obviously hope he stays.

Doesn't sound like there is a buyout clause then

Read somewhere that if the bid is above a certain amount he can speak to the club but we dont have to accept the bid.
Dont know if true, but good to see us playing some kind of hardball at least.

By "entertain," they mean that once the magic number has been reached, Ayre will appear in his underpants, dancing to a selection of songs that will include Bruce Springsteen's "Hungry Heart," Cat Stevens' "Moonshadow" and John Lennon's "What You Got",

Based on his interviews this week whilst with the Uruguay squad; the six games remaining from his latest ban and the way Liverpool played against Newcastle without him, I'd rather take the fifty million pounds.

Tony Barrett on The Times - Liverpool want at least £50m for Suárez

Liverpool will seek a club-record transfer fee in excess of £50 million for Luis Suárez before even considering selling the forward.
Suárez’s attempts to force a transfer to Real Madrid persisted yesterday with confirmation that he wishes to leave Anfield and a claim that the attention he receives from the media has made him disillusioned.
The 26-year-old’s assertion that he has already informed Liverpool of his desire to leave was slapped down by his club, who broke their silence on the matter after 48 hours of public provocation from the Suárez camp.
“Luis Suárez is not for sale — neither Luis nor his representatives have communicated their feelings to Liverpool Football Club,” a club official said. “The club remains supportive of Luis and expect him to honour his contract.”
If anything, the events of recent days have hardened Liverpool’s resolve not to allow Suárez to engineer a move on his terms. Furthermore, their belief that the Uruguay striker is one of the world’s outstanding players and at the peak of his powers means they will pursue a transfer fee in keeping with his standing if they allow him to leave.
One complicating factor is the presence of a clause in Suárez’s contract that requires them to consider offers of £40 million. Sources close to the club, though, maintain that it does not compel them to accept bids for that amount and insist that it will not prevent them from seeking a far higher figure.
Real are the only club to publicly declare an interest in Suárez and they will hope that continues and allow them to avoid a bidding war that would force the price up. But even if the Spanish club have the field to themselves, Liverpool’s present stance is that they will not even consider doing business unless they achieve what they perceive to be Suárez’s full market value.
The Liverpool hierarchy has expected Suárez’s commitment to the club to be tested this summer, despite him being less than 12 months into a four-year deal that was signed last August. This month, Brendan Rodgers, the Liverpool manager, admitted that he expected interest from rival clubs, but emphasised that he was under no pressure to sell the former Ajax player.
Rodgers’s only concession was that “every player has his price” and it now appears that it is up to Real to meet Liverpool’s valuation, one that matches the Merseyside club’s belief that he is a superior player to Fernando Torres, whom they sold for £50 million to Chelsea in January 2011.
Suárez made his feelings known yesterday during a press conference before Uruguay’s friendly match against France in Montevideo on Wednesday. “It is a difficult moment for me,” Suárez said. “[Rodgers] and my colleagues know that [the media] didn’t treat me well. Because of the paparazzi, I could not go in my garden, I could not go to the supermarket. My reason for leaving is not the money. It’s my family and image. I don’t feel comfortable here any more.
“It’s a good moment for a change of environment because of all I’ve been through in England, where I haven’t been judged as a player but based on other things. I had a hard time, very hard, in the things that have been said are lies. One has limits and the family also suffers. They treated me bad and it would be understandable if one day I go to my club [and the media are waiting for him], but I cannot walk my baby — the paparazzi are always there.
“In England, they talk about many things and in some ways I feel uncomfortable. I do not know when I’m going and I do not know if I’m staying. If I stay it is because it is a great club, but also in turn I know that it is difficult because of the harassment I get from the press.”

Oh, we're gonna make it hard for you to leave Luis....believe that.
Someone is gonna get stung.

I just I hope we don't waste the money on another Carroll.

Liverpool prepared to sell Luis Suárez for club-record £50m-plus

Liverpool will consider selling Luis Suárez but only for a club-record fee of more than £50m. Their leading striker is intent on ending a turbulent two-and-a-half-year career in English football.
Suárez declared on Friday that he wants to leave Liverpool when giving a third interview in two days expressing disillusionment with life in England. He had previously encouraged interest from Real Madrid by stating it would be hard to reject the Spanish club, then suggested it is time for a "change of environment" before taking matters further and announcing his desire to quit the Premier League.
That prompted an emphatic response from Liverpool, who have been unable to rein in the 26-year-old while he is on international duty in his native Uruguay but are determined not to be coerced into a deal with Madrid or any other club. A Liverpool spokesperson said: "Luis Suárez is not for sale. Neither Luis or his representatives have communicated these feelings directly to Liverpool football club. The club remains supportive of Luis and expect him to honour his contract. We will not be making any further comment at this stage."
Suárez will have to submit a written transfer request to challenge Liverpool's position but the club's stance is unlikely to change until they receive an offer greater than the £50m banked from Chelsea for Fernando Torres.
Liverpool are obliged to inform Suárez of any club prepared to activate a clause, believed to be in excess of £40m, that was included in the new four-year contract he signed last August. The clause will trigger negotiations should he wish to speak to that club, but not an automatic sale, and Liverpool would enter any talks insisting the Uruguay international is a better, fitter player than Torres was in January 2011.
Brendan Rodgers, the Liverpool manager, conceded last week that Suárez does have his price but his view on the player's future has not changed in light of recent comments. He said then: "They [Fenway Sports Group, the club's owner] have been absolutely unequivocal in their resolve in terms of wanting to keep him. Listen, every player has their price but there's certainly no pressure for the club to sell him. We're trying to build that bit of quality, so he's not for sale."
Suárez has repeatedly claimed his reason for wanting to leave is not financial or the lure of Champions League football, with Liverpool failing to qualify for Europe next season, but his treatment by the press in England. Ahead of Uruguay's friendly against France in Montevideo on 4 June he said: "It is a difficult moment for me. My coach and my colleagues know that they [the media] didn't treat me well. Because of the paparazzi I could not go in my garden, I could not go to the supermarket. My reason for leaving is not the money. It's my family and image. I don't feel comfortable here any more."
Suárez was a target for photographers after he bit the Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic in April, an act that resulted in a 10-match ban from the FA and, he has now confirmed, prompted him to reconsider his future. "The straw that broke the camel's back was my mistake," he said of his second suspension for biting an opponent. The first was with Ajax in 2010.
The striker claims he has not agreed a deal with Real but Liverpool had feared he would push for a move despite their steadfast support over the Patrice Evra racism controversy and the Ivanovic issue. Those two incidents alone have landed Suárez with suspensions totalling 18 matches but the player claims it is the press who have sullied his image.
José Reina's future, meanwhile, is uncertain after Víctor Valdés announced he could see out the final year of his Barcelona contract, having been expected to leave. Reina is in line to replace Valdés at Barcelona for a fee of around £10m and Liverpool have been considering alternatives.

Seems so strange that its not our bench he wont be sitting suspended on all of next year.

So basically, if a club bid more than £40million, Suarez has the right to talk to them? But we don't have to accept the bid? Usually we have to give the player permission to talk to another club right?

We could potentially have an awful lot of money to spend in the summer. I dont know about anyone else but that makes me feel a whole better about this situation. We could buy at least four players in the 20 million bracket.

The crazy thing? Imagine an El Classico with Bale, Ronaldo, and Suarez against Messi, Neymar, and god knows who else. This is going to make for some ridiculous strikeforces.

We better spend the money well though, or we are truly screwed.

Or buy loads of bog seats for a redeveloped Anfield.

Sounds like a really awfully drafted clause or bullshit from the club

The ECHO understands that reports in Spain that Suarez has a £40million buy-out clause in his contract are incorrect.

Perhaps it was a nothing clause put in to placade a player reluctant to sign a new contract
Who knows

#Suarez: "No, I don't. I don't know if I'm going to leave and I don't know if I'm going to stay, the club knows perfectly what I think. They know what I went through but hey, I have a contract with #LFC, if I stay, I stay delightfully cause it's a spectacular club, but at the same time they know it's difficult cause of the harassment I received from the press there, and they know that perfectly"

Backtracking?

Score a goal for us on 15th September and all is forgiven!

Honestly I'd prefer to have 50m on hand than him. It really could help us rebuild. Blessing In Disguise for sure. I'm done with expecting loyalty from these footballers (Liverpool born excepted)

Definitely Sell and High. He's opened a can of worms. No going back. Enjoy Madrid Luis - up you'll be crying for the love we gave you in no time after you experience those snakes.
