At this rate of improvement he'll be about half as good as Gerrard in about 100 years
A tad unfair to be comparing him with one of the best players ever to play for us, don't you think? There's only a handful of players in world football as good as him (Gerrard).
we had one and sold him real.
Alonso is good but if you did a poll to find our 10 best players ever, he wouldn't be on it.
guess not. however, would alonso be on a 10 ten best liverpool CM ever? I would say yes.

you guys are seriously harsh. call a spade a spade, if someone puts in a good performance have the good grace to say it. chances are lucas will be back to his usual level but until then give credit where credit is due or you just come across as having an agenda.
Yep.

I tried to explain the nature of the thread in the first post, maybe I should have drew a picture for the idiots who are telling us what we already know about his usual form, or the ones who are simply labelling his recent performances shit because they think he's shit anyway.

Spades eh?

I don't care how muck flak I take for this but lucas has been very good in the past three games.
Have you even read other peoples posts?
He never does. It leads to some weird conversations.

yes please, milk with 2 sugars.

Lucas has improved and anyone with half a brain can see that.

While many of us don't rate him, he is getting on with the job and stepping up. He may be "rubbish" and that's harsh but he is looking like the best of our so called "rubbish" players. He gives 100% every time.

Rafa will be coming to get him in January.

I dont think he's been 'better than shit' of late, i think hes been very very good.
I think with him playing well we are crying out for Kenig's 4-3-3

WHILE Sotirios Kyrgiakos continues to be lauded, Maxi Rodriguez is making strides and the world continues to drool over Steven Gerrard, one man continues to go quietly about his business at Anfield.

Though others have grabbed the headlines in Liverpool’s three-match winning run, it would be wrong to overlook the contribution that Lucas – so long a figure of ire – has made to the mini-revival.

He was linked this week with a £4m move to Stoke and it is true that Liverpool would not have stood in his way if an offer had come in before the last transfer deadline but now all thoughts must be shelved.

Lucas is getting better all the time and Gerrard was quick to lavish praise on the Brazilian, whose persistence and determination enabled the skipper to notch his third goal against Napoli.

If any clubs wanted to buy Lucas now, the minimum they should be thinking about is double the price Stoke were reported to be considering but even then it would not make sense to let a young midfielder slip out the door.

There will be times when he is found wanting but if Roy Hodgson had a few more with the attitude and desire of Lucas, the table would have a much healthier sheen. It’s time his improvement was acknowledged.

If we were to bring in Defour or some other good CM and he was happy to be a squad player maybe he has a future here.
But I'd say we'll farm him out to Stoke or somewhere like that. Roy doesn't rate him.
I've always maintained that we need 4 central midfielders to play in the way we do (if Stevie plays behind a lone striker) and one of these should always be on the bench. I don't think we'll get too many players better than Lucas who are happy to warm the bench all season, but that means we need two class central midfielders to keep him there - I think that Meireles could be one of those.

God, I was just thinking about this last night, how much did we take the Mascherano/Alonso/Gerrard axis two years ago for granted. If we had two decent wingers who could have helped us win those games such as Stoke, we'd have fucking won the league.

IMO this has been our downfall for the last 20 odd years, especially in the league. Virtually no width and when we do have space on the wings we don't have the type of players out there to make a difference against the teams who park the bus.

I'm not sure his last three games have been that inspirational.

I thought his game against Bolton was the best I'd seen by some margin; his passing was crisp and his tackling was level above pretty much any other Liverpool player on the pitch. One effort in the second half where he took the ball from the Bolton midfielder and passed it on before the guy even realized he'd lost the ball was priceless.

Having said all that he needs to prove he can perform at that level every match and he's a long, long way from doing that. I don't know anymore if he can do it; I hope he can but it will take a hell of an effort to convince me of it. His best is a long way in front of what most on here credit him for but he does frustrate in that he seems incapable of turning a bad performance around. When he starts playing poorly he seems to inevitably slide further into oblivion. The Mascher's and Gerrard's can turn performances like that around but Lucas doesn't seem capable of it and I think this defines his short comings.
