I don't want to start the whole "he's a cunt" thing for 20 odd pages, just thought it was worth acknowledging that he's been impressive in the last three games. Good work for the goal last night and generally getting involved in the attacking third alot more and putting himself about.

I thought his performance in the derby was the lowest of the low but he seems to have 'bucked' up since and looks a bit better for it. we still need quality in the middle to replace Masher but by and large he looks like he's improving.

a brazilian journalist on the guardian podcast was eulogising about lucas's recent performances for brazil - what's the deal there? is he actually a first-choice brazil international now? seems incredible, really. i'm not convinced he's ever going to have the strength or tackling ability to play the main defensive role really effectively, but then he's nowhere near creative enough to play alongside a mascherano type either. he'd be better playing on the continent.

I saw the Brazil match and he was impressive, but then he's in a team surrounded by dynamic and decent footballers.

He's certainly playing with more confidence and freedom at the minute, and I can only hope that Hodgson is bringing this out of him.

I think it's fair to say that he's looked shit whenever he's played alongside a DM, he's looked better when playing next to a more attacking player, like Aquilani, Gerrard and Meireles.

They are a bad influence on each other. They seem to drag each other down and plod about without either knowing what their role is.

Lucas was shit, is shit and will continue to be shit - he's just been less shit than usual in the last couple of matches.

Lucas has been good lately. As in, he hasn't been noticeably shite. I'm always open for a player to improve and go onto prove me wrong. I hope Lucas can do this.

His key attributes are: Excellent simple short range passing, good weight of pass, and an excellent engine.

If he improved his tackling, finishing and body strength, he'd be very much like Darren Fletcher. A box-to-box defensive midfielder.. and best played alongside a Scholes-type 'playmaking' midfielder with a bit of steel (who's his partner for Brazil?). And much like Fletcher, he'll have gone from a laughing stock to a very good player. All dependant on a continued improvement though, which is possible as he's still only 23.

It's quite helpful that Maxi and Cole and Jovanovic have the same haircut, as you can pretty much expect the same slightly average crap to happen when they get the ball.

The problem in midfield now is that Spearing doesn't have gay blond hair, so it's not as easy to know some cunt is going to fuck up the instant he gets it, it could be Meireles.

Similarly, defenders with hair seem to be ok, whereas defenders without it are probably a yellow away from a suspension and about to give a needless freekick away.

Lucas has been very good for the last three games and it is nice to see him improving.
If we were to bring in Defour or some other good CM and he was happy to be a squad player maybe he has a future here.
But I'd say we'll farm him out to Stoke or somewhere like that. Roy doesn't rate him.
