What about Mitroglou? He was bee`s knees at Olympiakos, spearheading the side that got to the Champions League last 16, then he went to Fulham, surely he'll not be sticking around to play Championship football.

Depends on what your definition of a top quality striker is I suppose. Here's the strikers for the last 13 league winners. I'd say it's usually 2 top quality strikers, and then a 3rd striker or pair of strikers who can help pick up another 10 - 15 or so goals.

However, there's hardly a trend in that either. Chelsea and Arsenal clearly do it differently, relying a lot on their midfielders to pull in the goals rather than their 2nd or 3rd strikers.

2013/14 - Man City : Agüero (17), Dzeko (16), Negredo (9), Joventic (3)
2012/13 - Man United: Van Persie (26), Rooney (12), Hernández (10)
2011/12 - Man City : Agüero (23), Dzeko (14), Balotelli (13), Tevez (4)
2010/11 - Man United: Berbatov (20), Hernández (13), Rooney (11)
2009/10 - Chelsea : Drogba (29), Anelka (11), Kalou (5)
2008/09 - Man United: Ronaldo (18), Rooney (12), Berbatov (9), Tevez (5)
2007/08 - Man United: Ronaldo (31), Tevez (14), Rooney (12), Saha (5)
2006/07 - Man United: Ronaldo (17), Rooney (14), Saha (8), Solskjaer (7)
2005/06 - Chelsea : Drogba (12), Crespo (10), Gudjohnsen (2)
2004/05 - Chelsea : Gudjohnsen (12), Drogba (10), Kezman (4)
2003/04 - Arsenal : Henry (30), Bergkamp (4), Wiltord (3)
2002/03 - Man United: Van Niistelrooy (25), Solskjaer (9), Forlan (6)
2001/02 - Arsenal : Henry (24), Wiltord (10), Bergkamp (9)

I suppose when I say top quality, I mean international class strikers who can come in and do a job, even for 5-10 games. It doesn't even necessarily mean scoring that many either.

So for United for example, you could add Welbeck. Or Arsenal Kanu. Chelsea have mainly played with 1 man upfront and attacking wingers/forward player in Duff/Robben, with a lot of their goals coming from Lampard in midfield.

Like I said above, you can get by with 3. But United who have won most of the titles above have almost always had 4.

Wages. He'll be on a shedload at QPR (which will have been protected in some way while he's been loaned to the Toon) and we might well not be prepared to offer him the same amount.

We need someone, if you look at us and City, Suarez and Sturridge hit a brick wall in the last several games (by their standards), we needed someone then to come in, like Dzeko did for City. He pretty much made the difference for them and helped them win it. I know there were other mitigating factors (the slip, our shite defense), but had we had that third striker, you never know.

Negredo was ace at the start of the season and Dzeko after Christmas. Add Aguero aswell and it puts you in a decent position.
It helps when you have a massive squad..

Be ers even him play. Who's he comparable to?

Oh and you don't sign strikers for their ability or not at tracking back. It's something you have to tolerate.

You don't have to tolerate it at all, you just don't buy them...simple. We can't afford to be carrying lazy players. He's not a team player.

I know, but some of the best strikers don't track back. Loic Remy or no. It's not a reason to avoid.
