Liverpool have emerged as the front runners to sign Queens Park Rangers striker Loic Remy, who is available for £8 million.
Although the French forward has returned to Loftus Road, following a successful loan spell with Newcastle United, he is widely expected to leave the west Londoners in the summer, regardless of the outcome of their bid to be promoted to the Premier League.
The 27-year-old carried the goal scoring burden for Alan Pardew’s side throughout the last campaign and will have no shortage of potential suitors having proven himself to be an accomplished striker during his stint at St. James’ Park, with Tottenham interested in Remy too.
However, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was tipped to be first in line to sign his compatriot on a permanent basis, but he has now reportedly chosen to activate a buy back clause in Carlos Vela’s contract, which will see the Mexican return to the Emirates from Real Sociedad.
As a result Brendan Rodgers’ side have now been tipped to secure a deal for the former Marseille man, as he looks to bolster his squad ahead of their Champions League campaign.
Liverpool’s small squad overachieved last season and new recruits are a necessity if the Merseysiders are to challenge for silverware on four fronts next season. Remy will provide firepower to their front line and would be likely to take the place of marginalised forward Iago Aspas.
