Liverpool have emerged as the front runners to sign Queens Park Rangers striker Loic Remy, who is available for £8 million.
Although the French forward has returned to Loftus Road, following a successful loan spell with Newcastle United, he is widely expected to leave the west Londoners in the summer, regardless of the outcome of their bid to be promoted to the Premier League.
The 27-year-old carried the goal scoring burden for Alan Pardew’s side throughout the last campaign and will have no shortage of potential suitors having proven himself to be an accomplished striker during his stint at St. James’ Park, with Tottenham interested in Remy too.
However, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was tipped to be first in line to sign his compatriot on a permanent basis, but he has now reportedly chosen to activate a buy back clause in Carlos Vela’s contract, which will see the Mexican return to the Emirates from Real Sociedad.
As a result Brendan Rodgers’ side have now been tipped to secure a deal for the former Marseille man, as he looks to bolster his squad ahead of their Champions League campaign.
Liverpool’s small squad overachieved last season and new recruits are a necessity if the Merseysiders are to challenge for silverware on four fronts next season. Remy will provide firepower to their front line and would be likely to take the place of marginalised forward Iago Aspas.
I really hope we sign him. Will be a great 3rd striker and can play out wide as well. Fairly inexpensive too.

I would love us to get him. Perfect for our system and is arguable a better finisher than Suarez and Sturridge.

For 8m it should be a no brainier

could he handle not being in the starting lineup every week ? Wouldn't be surprised if he kicked off .

He will get plenty of game time. With CL football we have 4 competitions next season and he will also play when we choose to rest Suarez or Sturridge is injured. He can play out wide in a front 3 as well.

Where?

In your imagination?
Ha. I think he's superb and very underrated and with our increase in games next season, can see more injuries especially to Studge who I think will come back injured from England duty (as he normally does)

Remi and Suarez up top to start the season with Lallana behind and Sterling and Kono on the wings 😉

Nah, not having that. Better than Suarez this season in terms of shots on target converted, I'll give you that. Last season was pretty much even. Suarez takes a fuck ton of shots, but this stuff isn't linear, so there's no saying Remy and Sturridge won't be worse if they shot as much as Suarez.

No way is he not going to arsenal. He was even seen at their last game in the crowd. Pretty nailed on to go there and he's desperate to go there as well.

So the midfield consists of Steven Gerrard.

On his own.

Yeah - I'm thinking that might be a problem.

Most championship winning teams have 4 top quality strikers. You probably could get by with 3. We've currently got 2. Remy is a quality CF and we're not awash with money, despite CL qualification. So we need bargain signings like this to bolster the first team. If he's motivated, focused and available for around 8m, we'd be stupid not to try to sign him.

Yeah, if he's under 10m, and his attitude is right I don't see why not

Definitely a player we should be in for. Anything under £15m and I'd be happy.

Makes a lot of sense at that price. I don't really see too many other obvious options for that back-up striker role out there. Is it just me or is there a bit of a dearth of quality strikers at the moment?

Depends on what your definition of a top quality striker is I suppose. Here's the strikers for the last 13 league winners. I'd say it's usually 2 top quality strikers, and then a 3rd striker or pair of strikers who can help pick up another 10 - 15 or so goals.

However, there's hardly a trend in that either. Chelsea and Arsenal clearly do it differently, relying a lot on their midfielders to pull in the goals rather than their 2nd or 3rd strikers.
