Liverpool, Wataru upto?

He was good again today and even on a yellow he just got on with it. With the money left over from his and Gravy's transfers vs the Caceido bid, hopefully there is a budget to strengthen in January if Klopp wants to.

That bolded bit sums Endo up really - sees the task, gets stuck in, works till he gets it done, on to the next. I'd be happier if we had another option at DM but that's in addition to Endo, not necessarily instead of him.

I'm impressed and have been for some time. He's every bit as professional as I thought and must be a managers dream. He's uncomplicated and a real team player. I think he's taken the 6 position from Mac Allister.

Other than USG, Lask and Toulouse away I really don’t think he’s had a poor game. Maybe Palace away. That’s it, very impressive otherwise.

Hang on hang on, something aint right here…..have we seriously conceded 3+ goals in 6/9 games without Endo? No chance.

What games have we concede 3+ in bar Fulham and Toulouse unless I’m reading this wrong.

“When I was in Germany I met a Japanese dentist; he told me it's a good mouthpiece, it makes something different about performance,” Endo told Sky Sports. “Now I just wear it to protect my teeth and also it looks like a fighter, so when I go into the pitch I just put the mouthpiece on and it's like game mode.”

The performances the last few months haven't been a surprise, he's only really had a few poor games (most in the Europa playing with kids), other times he was getting judged when we were playing 50-60mins with 10 men, never understood it. We appreciate you Wata.

He's been quietly efficient, effective and, surprisingly, incisive in our play. Obviously I'm a fan, but Dreamie's point add's even more to that. He is bombing round EVERY game when the rest are struggling. So much for the "he's 30, boo hoo"

He's got plus points but he made at least 3 big cock-ups today, including 1 insane one. Decent player, not top quality.

Yes he did - it could have been serious but luckily they did not make anything out of it. But still he is performing, and is becoming integral now to how we retain the ball. Also that type of potential error he made is something any DM could make, it's taken me this long to see how good he actually is. All I would say to the doubters is just look at his performance against Arsenal as his high end product - because to me that game he was the best midfielder.

It's a tough one. Do you get what you pay for? Declan Rice never has a bad game. Caicedo does. Endo does but cost a 1/5 of those guys. You work it out. I'd rather have Rice truth be told but we were never interested and debatable whether he would have come to us.

Work what out exactly? We can’t work anything out unless Rice proves to be the difference maker between Arsenal not winning trophies and Arsenal winning trophies….and if you’re spending over 100m on a player you better damn pray that comes to light otherwise he goes down as another player (who did well for himself - good for him) without really accomplishing anything for the team.

We got Szobo, Mac and Endo for 5m more than they paid for Rice. He may not have had a bad game yet but is he looking like a 105m player every week? Only Arsenal fans that watch their team week in week out would be able to tell you this.

That’s absolutely it We currently have an absolutely committed, competent DM that definately is (now) at the EPL level. We paid (top of head) £16m for him and we committed to pay him £10m over 4 years. Rice went for (top of head) £110m and has a contract liability of £60m over 5 years.

Rice was Arsenal’s main signing and, in my opinion, a game changer for them. We had, and still have, bigger problems elsewhere last summer.

I’ve no doubt we prioritised our spend sensibly in the summer and the purchase of Wataru Endo should be consider either inspired or lucky

but never a stopgap

Wataru Endo v Burnley
90 minutes played
2 chances created
92 touches
65/76 accurate passes (86%)
3 clearances
8 recoveries
4/6 aerial duels won
3/3 long balls
1 shot on target

I’d also imagine his distance covered in games, although we never see the stats for it, are pretty high.

Endo has been nothing short of an outstanding signing when you considered the position he’s playing, the circus around the failed Chelsea attempts, the apathy of his unveiling, his first 3 months and what’s done since getting a starting place in the league. Not to mention he always looks to break the lines with his passing and has an eye for a goal.
Add in a perfect attitude and we’ve basically replaced Milner as a DM. All for 16m. Realistically it doesn’t get much better than this!

Ah, shame.

Would’ve been good to see the real stats

Here is the real one. Maybe a little bit skewed because a lot of the “without Endo” games were earlier in the season when our defence was still finding its way - will be interesting to see how we’ll look with Macca instead of Endo for a month.

I just hope he comes back from the Asia Cup in the same form as he is leaving us, I don't want a Mo Salah pre/post AFCON situation like in the treble winning season. Let's support him to win the Asian Cup or an early exit or something. He will be properly missed for us.
