Based on what? If he matches anything like Young, Ryan Babel would be in the first team.

For Villa, Young has bagged 17 goals and 30 assists in 93 appearances, which is pretty good going.

he takes every corner and every free kick and see's a lot of the ball in that team. Pennant was also the best crosser in the league with tons of assists when we signed him

When? He's netted 14 in 87 appearances for us, so that's bollocks.

There's a reason ones value is £25M and the others is less than half that.

The only comparisons are them both being black and a bit quick.

He takes every corner and freekick because he's bloody good at them.

Jesus Christ.

How many minutes have they both played though?

I'd imagine Young has started much much more than Babel.

(I'm not really a fan of Babel, or anti-Young by the way. Young may be a better player but I'd rather rely on Babel to score goals).

Ashley Young is far more productive than Babel. He has an end product. His only problem has been that he's supplying chances for Heskey, Carew and Agbonlahor.

Babel has had 2 years and just hasnt cut it. How many chances must we give him?

I would rather we got Young than Silva as I still think we need genuine pace in midfield. Silva is undoubtedly better technically, but if we are having Kuyt on the right, then we need at least one other outlet other than Torres when we are breaking.

The other benefit Young brings over Ryan Babel is he doesn't fuck up 90% of the time.

Quite handy in football.

young starts week in week out you'd think that he'd score three times as much as babel seeing as babel is in and out of the side.

so good they couldnt win one of their last 15 games

Portsmouth finished 14th in the league but we still paid £17 million for their full back. You cant necessarily judge a players ability or potential based on their teams results/performances. Young was one of the main reasons why Villa done so well the last couple of years, and his stats back that up. Whether hes worth £25 million or not is another story, but prices for top english players are always inflated. I'd love to see him sign but i cant see villa wanting to do business with us after last summers shananigans.

I like Babel - I want him to step up this season and be given a fair crack , unlike last season.

I'm not quite sure why he's staying though after the (non) season he had.

If we are going to buy a wide left player, lets spend £15-20M and bring in Robben.
Babel often plays as a striker. Young likes the word quintessential. Babel once spent a long weekend in Dieppe.

I cant believe this is even up for discussion.

For the money we'd pay for young I'd much rather have Silva.
Why? Riera is keeping him out of the spanish team. Is Silva that good?

No, this is an official stat from opta.

without turning this AY thread into a babel thread babel really has the oppertunity to press on this season and force himself into the side. the first preseason game of the season he looked sharp and that was a lovely through ball for nemeth. it's make or break because no way is babel going to be given another chance if he squanders this one. my own personal opinion is he can force himself into the side if he just gives 3-4 consistant performances in a row be it starting or from the bench.

another point, big teams are far too eager to get rid of young players without trying to figure out what makes them tick case in point is glen johnson. young promising player so instead of tying to coax that talent out of him they sold him, turns out all he needed was a consistant run in the side. the same side that sold him were in for him about at double the fee they sold him for not even 3 years earlier.

As usual the regular cretins gatecrash a thread with nonsensical jibberish.

And this is coming from a Babel supporter.

Ryan Babel is currently dreaming at being at Ashley Youngs level, which is why he starts most of the time on the bench. On 'his day' Ryan is perhaps marginally more direct and in turn, more effective. But that happens once every 2 months; the rest of the time is spent giving the ball away, making wrong decisions, and loitering around the field pretending to give a fuck.

As previously said, comparisons between the two are pointless

And you're the worst debater any forum has ever known. Congratulations.

How many players do we sign where it isn't a "step up"? Torres? Nope. Alonso? Nope. Reina? Nope. In fact I'm struggling to think of anyone. The fact Young is 'prem proven' means it's much more likely he'll fit in.

Apparently Real Madrid are lining up a bid for Le Tallec for £100 gazillion... and we let him go for peanuts! *bangs fist*

Didn't Madrid have E'to? Not sure how long he was on their books like like like.

Yeah, he was with the B team back in the day.

The problem I have with him is that he has never looked that great against us has he ? - or am I wrong - please let me know.

insults. HOORAY!!! as for dreaming of being at young's level, he (young) got 7 league goal last season and 9 assists starting virtually every league game where as babel got three league goals despite not starting three games in the league in a row.

I didn't bring stats into this.

You don't need them.

Anyone can see Young's the better footballer
