Does anyone else really want to punch Mancini?

I wish it were you picking the team, bren...
You can understand us wanting a bit of steel in the midfield, but with Gerrard, Masher, Kuyt and Jovanovic, there's enough fight in there. While not wanting to get carried away too much on one goal from Babel, I think it's important we try and pressure them from the off, and leaving Torres isolated ahead of a negative midfield will be playing into their hands, whereas the pace of Torres and Babel/N'Gog would make them sit deeper, I'd have thought.

As already posted. That's a decent team; no Lucas, either! Hooray!

Poulsen and Aurelio had better put in better displays tonight.

Plus: no Lucas either!

Was Poulsen that bad? I only saw the first half, his passing looked decent, he didn't look half as willing to get stuck in as I thought he would though.

I'm not sure the one posted earlier wasn't anything more than a guess. I'm assuming this is from Redshrek.

Although maybe he has posted it already, I dunno. I haven't read the whole thread. As you were.

I got sent the team early yesterday evening.
Second half he toned down the passing a bit, kept it simple (not such a bad thing as he sent a few wayward in the first half).

Did a decent defensive shift in the second half though, put in some decent tackles.

Looks like he just needs match fitness really, nowhere near as mobile as Mascher and not as tenacious, but he didn't look *awful* he was just a bit poor. Like pretty much everyone else.

I think he'll be alright

Cheers. From what I seen he seemed to be the one looking for openings and wanting to make the more difficult pass, despite the fact that Lucas was meant to be the one with more attacking freedom.

so, poulsen already ahead of lucas in the pecking order, in a short space of time he's managed to do what aqualini was unable to do.

I know! Obviously, it isn't really that relevant in that Benitez never had Poulsen (and also loved Lucas), but it sums up just how fucking terrible Aquilani was.

I was confident he'd be a success, only in that to be deemed a "success" ALL he had to do was be better than Lucas, and take his place. That The Shithouse couldn't even manage that is all that you need to know about his Liverpool "career".

That said, let's not kid ourselves that Poulsen is anything great, because he isn't.

Aquilani was better than Lucas, he's not got in the team because of whatever issues he's got over either his injury or his willingness to take a few kicks for the cause. He's a shithouse yeah but he's not 'shit' and he's miles better than Lucas, whether he could dislodge him is neither here nor there, if he'd showed half the enthusiasm Lucas show he'd be in there.
Yeah, certainly the first half he was passing the ball forwards, looking to play people in and generally keep the momentum and pace going. He just wasn't doing it particularly well, or rather with any consistency, which is why I reckon he stopped second half.

Lucas on the other hand was doing his usual trick of receiving the ball, dallying on it for far too long, running around in a bit of a circle before either playing it sideways or backwards. Either that, or making a promising looking run forwards that got you thinking "By Jove! He's actually going to do somethi . . . oh. He's been shrugged off the ball. With ease. Again."

This Poulsen chap will never be as good as Mascher at what he does, but he does look (on very limited assessment) to be a little bit more rounded than Mascher is. This is coming from somebody who thinks that Mascher's passing is nowhere near as bad as people make out out, but I think Poulsen has got more in his locker in that respect. A couple of the passes that did come off for him first half were quite neat and tidy - played to feet, with pace, through narrow gaps, and played quickly either first time or after a little touch for control.

Plus he was getting forward a bit and was slightly unlucky with the goal.

I reckon he'll be ok
