things can only get better after 1 pt out of possible 6. by a quick calculation approximately a 16.667% start to the season! :🙂

Saw this on Est, anyone head anything?

Anyone else hear that Gerrard and Torres did not turn up afterwards for the warm down with the rest of the players after the game?

It was reported on BBC sports.

Maybe they were on the blower to their agents. Still a week to engineer a move away!

They don't have to do that, all they need to do is refuse to play in the next game.

Anyways, I can't remember the last time we got beat 3-0, I think Chelsea beat us 4 -1 at home a few years ago and I'm sure it's happened more often because I'm an alky and an optimist so have a selective memory - but I honestly don't think we played thaaaat bad.. I mean any worse than last week. I just think Citeh did very well. De Jong was pretty brilliant. And the fact that they've played Spurs and us and haven't conceded says most about what they're doing right.

You can't draw massive conclusions from a one off game but they were defo the better side in most departments tonight - and I can't see us improving a great deal.

I was surprised at just how good City were tonight. Some outstanding performances. Johnson and Hart are going to be real gems for England in the future.

They were essentially playing with 5 in midfield at times and controlled the game from start to finish because of their dominance here, imo. Barry and De Jong mopping up allowing Johnson and Milner to get forward and Toure was spreading the play nicely.

Poor all round from yourselves though i thought. Too many passengers in the side tonight.

I hate that City are buying all the best young players now.

Johnson should be a Liverpool player, something is not right with the Universe.

I must admit that I'm rather nervous about this game. Everyone's having a pop at Mancini and going about how negative they are. It'd be just like us to capitulate and give a team the "kick-start" and "belief"they need in a season. I fear a beating.

cf Spurs last season.

Well, that is what happened. Shitty will take an awful lot of confidenec from that. Title-challenge.

We never got going in this game. We were bossed by a physically imposing, skilful and highly motivated City. Adam Johnson got a lot of joy against Agger and it was only a matter of time before they broke our vulnerable defence. Having got the goal their confidence went up a notch and I thought at that point we were likely to concede more.

We did at least try to get our passing game together but a lot of it was sideways and we never really penetrated their defence. I thought we also waited too long to change personnel but perhaps the game had already gone anyway. Hodgson looked thoughtful throughout and I'm sure the size of his task is just beginning to dawn. He now has the extra headache of a want away player which couldn't have helped the team's preparations.

The City line-up is very impressive now and I don't think we'll be the only club that goes down to a heavy defeat, their biggest barrier will be self-belief as they surely have the players to mount a significant title challenge.

As for us, it's a matter of gleaning maximum points against usually inferior teams and try to build a decent points tally, whilst for us fans it's a matter of hope that the club's owners change and we can at least have a period of optimism. Unless major investment is forthcoming I can't see us improving on last years finishing place even if our better players stay fitter longer. We are second tier in terms of squad depth, no amount of good old commonsense and honey words will elevate us, as ever cash is king. Benitez knew it and so does Hodgson.
