Liverpool vs Man City 23rd August

....................................Pepe..................................

Magic..................Carra.....Skrtel...................Agger/Aurelio

......................Masher.......Gerrard.......................

Kuyt........................Maxi/Pacheco....................Jovanovic

.............................Torres......................................

..... and I'd be very happy with any of the above playing in those positions. My only slight worry being Barry / De Jong kicking the shite out of Pacheco.

I'm really hopeful we get to see a Masher/Poulsen combo maybe they'll boss everything together.
I don't think that'd be very good at all
Far better than Masher/Poulsen + Lucas I'm sure.
Clearly it is.

Prognosis: cautiously optimistic?

That's exactly the team outlined in the original post mate...
Not quite Jimmy - I've added Aurelio & Pacheco to the mix as I'd be happy with either/or.

Again he proved he was a red, Torres Torres
He put the transfer talks to bed, Torres Torres
He told Roy Hodgson where he stands
He loves the club and he loves the fans
Fer nan do Tor res, Liverpool’s number 9

He said: "You play to your strengths. We've been using Joe where we think he serves the team best.

"If he's not playing, someone else will come into the team and we'll try and use him where we think he serves the team best.

"I have a playing and footballing philosophy, but not necessarily hung up on a particular system. So we will organise our playing philosophy around whoever plays."

Please not a combination of two from Masher, Lucas and Poulsen. Kuyt will give us a bit of strength, fight and defensive stability in the middle if played just off Torres.

I'd be very happy if that was the team. Although it might be worth thinking about Babel on the right, because Zabaleta struggles against pace (as Lennon showed the other week). And Babel's confidence should be high after scoring with his last touch.

You've really got to learn to spell Jovanovic though, Mark.

Haha... I hadn't even noticed, I really thought that was his name. :-[

That's a good line up Mark. It gives Gerrard a opportunity to get forward and Kuyt could always drop back a bit if needs be. He could also swap with Maxi throughout. Plenty of workers out there, but they can all pick a pass out too.

I'm more worried about which City team turns up. They could turn us over or just as easily be there for the taking.

If you read post 1 and 2 I also have Aurelio and Pacheco in the mix!

Great minds think alike..

So you did Jimmy, so you did, fools seldom differ eh ?

Bunny - sorry, went off to bed and didn't reply. I don't expect Pacheco to start but could easily see him brought in there as a sub. He's probably too inexperienced to start a match of this status. But I wouldn't complain if he was in there, maybe that's why he didn't play against Trab., like a few others.

Pepe, Magic, Carra, Skrtel, Agger, Masher, Poulsen, Gerrard, Kuyt, Jovanovic, Torres.

If we pick that side and Mancini's persists with his 3 DM's, then Monday night is going to be an absolutely fierce in the middle of the park.

Huge test for Poulsen.

I'm hoping Manchini goes for an aggressive 4-3-3

Hart

Richards Kompany Toure Kolarov

Milner Barry Silva

Tevez Adebayour Balotelli

We'd tear them apart, and they'd tear us apart... 5-5 😉

Picking the Man City side is nigh on impossible.

Imagine playing 'Last Man Standing' on their forums.

New game every 3 weeks. What a horrible club they're becoming.

Not sure about that: Mancini picked almost exactly the same side for both the Spurs game and their Europa League qualifier. Going on that, their team will be extremely negative, like this:

Hart

Richards - K. Touré - Kompany - Zabaleta

Milner - Y. Touré - De Jong - Barry

Silva

Tevez

Yep. Mancini is a quite defensive manager so there is no way he is going to go 4-3-3 against us ! However I can see Balotelli starting :

Hart

Richards Kompany Toure Kolarov

Milner De Jong Barry Silva

Tevez Balotelli

I'd love them to play that team. There's no real goal-threat.

And I always fancy Torres to smash one in.

He's not gonna drop YaYa - Barry or De Jong would make way if that was the formation. I suppose their first two matches were away and this one's at home, but still... I think most managers would consider Liverpool a more dangerous opponent than Timisoara.

Exactly, During Spurs Tevez and Silva both ran off into channels and there was no one actually in the box during most opportunities.. Milner, Toure, DeJong and Barry arn't going to get more than 15goals a season between them..
And Kolarov is injured, isn't he?
Oh didn't know that. And yes you are probably right about YaYa, so :

Hart

Richards Kompany Toure Zabaleta

Silva Y.Y. Toure De Jong Barry

Tevez Balotelli

I don't understand why he bought Milner. He is so-so on the wing and his best performances for Villa last season was in MF - however at Citeh he's not going to dislodge YaYa or Barry and is not going to be primarily a DM as per De Jong.
