rafa should have been braver there and subbed one of the defenders who were spectators for the entire match. when teams park the bus the center backs ability on the ball is badly exposed.

Yep. I can imagine, Ferdinand, Vermalen or indeed Agger (had he been there) taking the ball forward into midfield had they been given so much time on the ball as our CBs were given today. Their lack of techical ability in helping make that extra man is a (small) part in a big problem.

I mean for fucks sacks fulham are defending deep so fucking run into the SEA OF SPACE in front of you!! ARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!
anyway who cares, a defenders job is to defend...

I know there is some quality in our side, but they look like they don't know how to play together.

What happened to the way we played after the first goal against Benfica - for a while then we passed and moved and the players looked like they knew what each other wanted to do.

Was it just a temporary fluke?

I can't figure out the difference, beyond the fact that there was a goal under the belt already at that point.

Is it just the confidence /enjoyment of playing that comes from being a goal up?

If that's all there is between us playing well and playing like a bunch of dickheads then most of our players need a proper kick up the arse.

What a wet bunch of cunts.

Babel shouldn't have been taken off, he was terryifying the right side of their defence, and we knew it with the continous cross-field balls to him.

Bizarre decision..Other than that, we probably wouldn't have scored in 270 minutes regardless of how well we played, we really really need a backup striker.

Nothing against N'gog who I think will flourish if he's loaned out to another PL team, but if we start next season with Torres plus him again, ain't nothin' gon' change.

It wouldn't matter so much if we had attackers who could attack.. and a midfield who could create chances. *sigh*

mmm thanks so we missed torres

we would have won this game easy if we had played with any speed and urgency at all.
oh and if torres was there to pull bunnies out of hats of course.
fulham looked like they were already beaten, and never threatened.

Since 4th is already lost...

on the plus side, there were very positive link ups between Aquilani and Gerrard, instigating majority of the one touch passing that gave us a couple of good chances in the 2nd half.

also everything thing is so slowwwwww, what is the point of taking one touch to control and another to pass if you can just make the pass? fulham were comfortable all afternoon because at no time were they stretched.
[/quote]

agreed. It's not just the physical but speed of thought too. Overwhelming possession but no sustained pressure. Was like a Sunday kickabout. >🙁
4th's gone now. I can't see both Spurs and Man City both tripping badly.

Taking off babel and Aqua was a mistake. We were completely impotent without them

2 touches is fine if players have a decent level of awareness, but only Torres and Gerrard (and occasionally Masch) ever seem to have the awareness to play a ball within seconds of receiving one. Most players (Kuyt and Lucas are the worst for this) get the ball, control it, look up and take 5-10 seconds to decide where it's going but then pass back because the gap that was there is now gone.
