Liverpool v Spartak Moscow Match Thread CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

It pains me to say it, but I thought our midfield looked much more fluid tonight without Henderson in it. Can and Wijnaldum seemed to play better.

When Henderson is on top of his game he's an addition to any team, but I haven't seen it in a while. I agree that we can take him out and look as good if not better at times. If we get a new CM, as well as Keita coming in, then he's not necessarily first choice any-more IMO.

Why would it pain you to say it? Take all the emotion away and look at what he is now - a sore thumb in a really good, exciting Liverpool team. Henderson was really good for a spell a few years ago, a real asset but he's not now. He's Southampton/Watford standard. Bin him.

Did you miss it ?

He went half heartedly into a 50/50 challenge. It looked like his ankle was most likely hurt
I did yes, I popped down to McDonald's just before half time, radio commentators saying it was nasty ligament damage?!

I don’t think McDonalds care if the ligament is damaged or not, they’ll add it to their burgers.

Props for having a radio commentator comment on it though.

BTW Klopp said he's tweaked the formation once again – according to him it was 4-4-1-1, with "Roberto running everywhere and Mo staying between the lines," while Coutinho and Mane "had to defend like proper midfielders." I was not completely convinced by the defending part; still think it was too easy for Spartak to create shot opportunities, but certainly on the balance of attack and defense this system worked very well against this opponent.

I also don't think there was defending by those two - in fact I don't know what he means when he asks Coutinho to defend - probably only time you see him defend is in our final third - by then its too late for us usually. I get what he is trying to do - and this is probably the underlyng reason why he maybe willing to let Coutinho go if he can get a person with 'some' of the same skills but more physical and able to defend midfield.

Not sure why everyone's going on about a 7-0 win.

It was only 6-0. Firmino's goals in the Champions League don't count remember. He's only scored 5 goals this season.

I know he assisted Coutinho's 2nd goal too, but I'm not sure how that gets calculated in Brenlogic, maybe he can advise.

He's a fucking shitbag for that assist too. Any decent number nine would have shot and hoped to score himself instead of looking up and making an intelligent unselfish pass to create a much easier chance for Coutinho. Fucking bedwetter.

I'm quiffing...........

Can suspended for the next round but as he won't be an LFC players by then....who cares. Also, although he played well last night I would give him no more than 5/10 because of that stupid challenge early in the game that got him the yellow. A different ref might easily have given him red and could have seriously affected our chances of progress. An international footballer playing such an important game must show more intelligence than that, he won't be missed.

A few thoughts of mine..

When I saw our line-up last night I shat my pants on behalf of Spartak fans everywhere and then aggressively entered my bookie app and placed a decent amount on us winning with at least a 3 goals margin. I knew I was being conservative and now kinda rue the missed opportunity for a -6 HCP bet. That would've been fun.

Coutinho's second was pure five-a-side footie. Firmino's unselfish, weighted pass just made me laugh out loud. Dead sexy, that move was.

We are a blockbuster team. I'd say we are like 'Guardians of the Galaxy 1 AND 2'.. United more so 'Batman v Superman'.

Finally, I think we could actually go on and win the Champions League this season, we most likely won't, but we could. That's a nice warm, fuzzy feeling. Christmas-like.

The ball switched sides so much during the move leading up to Coutinho's second goal, the Spartak players looked like they were watching a tennis match.

Generous of you, and I hope the winnings covers New pants in addition to some red salami 😀

The Spartak fans went back to London with their tails between their legs like all the fucking Mancs.

Utter Scum. Fuck them

I thought the Spartak fans were excellent. They kept up their loud support no matter how many goals they conceded. And some of their songs were veritable ear-worms!

Those 3-4s and 5-6s that coutinho and salah/ firmino were playing at the edge of the box at 4-0 belong on pornhub

The Spartak manager may have had the bright idea of banning their players from pre-match sex, but that didn't do them any good.

He got his tactics completely wrong, playing a high line which allowed our speedy forwards to have fun behind them.

Sadly Big Sam will be well and truly parking the bus on Sunday, which will make things more difficult.

He is a Manc worshipping twat, so he does what they tend to do!

Russian media reports that Spartak stayed in the hotel "Titanic" in Liverpool before their 7-goal mauling.

Just as an aside, when I went to the gents' toilet at half-time, I saw poor old Ron Yeats wandering around trying to get in. One of the entrances is always manned by a steward, who sends everybody along to the other entrance. Fans were chivvying the steward to let Big Ron in through the forbidden entrance, and he eventually relented.

Every time the club emails me a survey about my "match experience," I point out that a Liverpool Legend like Ron Yeats shouldn't be having to use the plebs' toilets - he should have a place in the Directors' Box.
