I think tonight has been interesting in terms of Aquilani. He clearly prefers the one touch passing, flicks and what not closer to goal. He clearly needs to be in a team that is playing possession football and this season we have been anything but.
I can see what Rafa thought he was going to get out of him, but as Aquilani himself said in a rather understated manner, he can't quite do the playmaker role and as we've seen tonight, just doesn't really seem comfortable in that role. Ironically, I think Aquilani would be great alongside Alonso.
We're badly in need of another midfielder.
