Liverpool v Plymouth - FA Cup - Match Thread

Origi is definitely what I would call a natural finisher but that's all he's good at. His all round game isn't great in tight spaces
Harsh on the lad, he's proved to be a very good player for us.

He offers a real threat in behind when the likes of lallana firmino and phil are feeding him.

the players supporting his weren't interested.

Both strikers were poor, the service was terrible. Sturridge made things happen but that came from coming deep for the ball, there was no service. Origi isn't a poor finisher by any stretch, it's difficult to be judged a poor finisher because the chances just weren't there. By that reckoning, Woodburn could be labelled the same, when it's simply untrue. Origi needs to improve his all round game to the level it was at late last season.

You're being a wee bit too impartial here ... Some fan!

Yep That was one poor game. It was pretty obvious from the first 20mins that it wasn't going to work. Oh well.

The pattern of game play didn't change from minute 1 to 96... real shame to see professional footballers not able to mix their game up.

Was just passing from side to side, putting in a few pointless crosses.

WE NEED A BIGGER SQUAD.

OTHER THAN OUR FIRST XI WE HAVE TO LOOK TO YOUNGSTERS FOR COVER WHICH ISN'T REASSURING.

THE ONLY EMBARRASSMENT FROM TODAY WAS OUR DUMBEST PLAYER ON SET PLAYS....20+ WE HAD AND NOT 1 WORTH MENTIONING.

BUY A SET PIECE TAKER AND BUY SOME POWERFUL TALL MIDFIELDERS, EVERY PLAYER LOOKED DULL, WEAK AND SHORT.

Why so emotive when you start a thread saying it's a meh game?

IT WAS WORST THAN A MEH GAME, THE PLAYERS CERTAINLY FELT THE SAME... THE FANS AT THE GAME WERE AWFUL.

TODAY JUST PROVED WE NEED SOME SIGNINGS IN THE NEXT 3 WEEKS.

Not really. Maybe we do need a couple of signings, but today proved we just got it wrong, it was nothing to do with whether we need to sign anyone.

As said on the commentary, we could have played the big guns and had the game wrapped up, and then made changes.

The Plymouth manager probably thought he had no idea what opposing players would be playing so he opted to defend no matter what. That was anti-football by any standards, as painful to watch as daytime ITV on a bad day, and I hope the cynical bastard doesn't escape via the nonsense that is the 'magic of the cup' hype.

Having said that, it was poor from Klopp that the side never got going, not even after half time. And I really cannot cope with the prospect of a similar bunch of fools being sent out in a week or so at Plymouth for the rest of the country to get all giddy about giant killing. Let's draw a veil over the whole sad affair.

But this is a sobering wake-up call to all who immediately embrace the 'play the reserves' dogma. We could be out of two cups and slipping down the league in a week. When we've got good enough reserves, well, play a few of them, but don't play them all like they've got some kind of contractual right. In that game we saw everything I've been complaining about in the reserve team/league ethos - no competitive fight, no urgency, no drive, just decent technique. Play a few alongside an experienced set of players and they might learn something, but that kind of insipid performance gets them a pat on the back every week for the ressies, and that's why they're not ready. Yes, we needed to rotate, obviously, but in a season without Europe we really don't need THAT many changes.

Got it wrong how?

We need a different style of play to break down stubborn defences which calls for players like Promes.

With the players we have we're a counter attacking team, with 70%+ possession we never seem to know what to do.

I knew as soon as the line up was announced we would struggle , klopp got it badly wrong. It's hard to fault the young lads burdened with creative difficulties when a league 2 side is ALWAYS going to set up like that at anfield.

he best not moan about fixture congestion in his presser for Southampton.

Moreno was bollocks , and can anonymous ,Lucas was probably the best of the first team squad

If we didnt have any injuries and not just been through a hectic Christmas periode, then it would have made sense to play some of the senior players aswell.

But seeing as we had the second least rest of all the teams in the league and several injuries, todays line up was the sensible thing to do. Especially with a league cup semi final in a few days coming up.

So you would have played the best XI? Klopp picked the right line-up, we needed to rotate for the next week...our squad just isn't big enough.

It's not a £40m pound player that's the difference between beating Plymouth Argyle, at home. It's making the wrong choices. Do you really think we drew today because we need to sign someone? If Lallana and Sturridge had started, we'd have won.

It's not like Sturridge will start against United anyway.

Yep. In complete agreement.

Not bothered at all by that result. In fact I think it's great Plymouth get another big pay day, these types of matches often make a huge difference to the bank balances of much smaller clubs, and existence or potential demise. And I get to watch another Liverpool reserve team game !

It means another runout for 5-6 of our U23s, and for our under-utilised squad fillers, and considering how weak the reserve/U23 schedules are they really do need competitive games, which could see us reap the benefit later if called upon for the first team. Good to see Gomez back, even though there was nothing for him to do in this match, should be a lot more at Plymouth.

For the first team this means almost nothing, a short flight down there and a 20 minute runout at worst.

Well done Plymouth, defensively very well organised.
It means less time to prepare for the game immediately following the reply.

You know tactics and shit.

I really don't see the hype with Ejari at all but then none of the kids did well probably with the exception of Woodburn who at least looked lively
