Those substitutions killed us. Replacing Aquilani and Mascherano with El Zhar and Degen... we may as well have just waved a bit white flag.
 
Shit competition my arse. We were desperate for a trophy, and it would have provided some solace from a nightmare season. Now there's no consolation at all, unless Chelsea can win the league.

The squad is absolutely disastrous. No squad depth, no ideas, no creativity, not enough quality, poor tactics. Everything has to change from head to toe.

Massive big meh as far as the cup goes, but it spells disaster when you can't break down the imperious Atletico Madrid defence.
 
this is as bad as i felt after the 1-1 draw with Lyon where we deserved a win but one fucking defensive lapse and we're punished.

Well, we had no-one on the bench. It was plain as day that if the first eleven didn't do it, we weren't going to be able to rely on any super subs.

Good first half. Poor second half. As usual, we missed Torres.

Proud of the lads. They gave it their all. Ultimately we should have a squad capable of beating athletico. We clearly dont.

That's hardly solace. It's been a clusterfuck of a season. A trophy would only have papered over the cracks chasms anyway

Yep. You can't knock the effort. Babel didn't stop amazingly. Unlucky lads. Undone by a shitty goal and an awful performance in the 1st leg IMO

Rafa should have swallowed his pride and had Riera on the bench.

The subs killed us today, totally killed us.

Riera is an experienced international who YES fucked up, but we didnt sell or loan him out and we are paying the fuckers wages. Its last chance saloon in the season and where is he? Earning 45k a week sat at home because although he apologised Rafa has frozen him out and left us with...El Fucking cunt to come on.
