I think QPR have done well too, although I haven't checked which of their signings were actually confirmed. But yeah, out of the top lot, it's us and only Man City come close.

I know I'm meandering, but can any other team put out a better British XI than us? I think this team could beat most (although it is about the 5th choice keeper) and doesn't even include Wilson or Robinson:

On that point our purchases under Kenny and Commolli have seen us purchase what should be the best years of Carroll, Suarez, Henderson, Enrique, Adam (and probably 2/3 more years of Downing's) respective careers. And at the same time ridding ourselves of (at least some of) the worst years of the careers of the likes Poulsen, Cole, Degen, Jovanovic and Konchesky. Who knows what we've given away in Aquilani but I think most people don't think he would have fulfilled his potential here. I don't see Insua and N'Gog having long top level careers so I'm not concerned about losing their best years, the only player we've given up of any significant value to us was Meireles.
All in all it's been an excellent summer, we're not really there yet but in all but Downing there's probably inherent improvement left in each one of the players so we should improve over the next few years. All that's required is the right additions next year to an already good squad and we're there or thereabouts.

Downing will benefit from having a better set of players to cross to. There may yet be more to come from him as well.

adam, coates, and enrique all good players for what look like bargain fees.
downing and henderson decent, but expensive, and in henderson's case, hardly a priority.
carroll for £35m i don't even want to think about.
i'll leave you with the thought that our net spend since benitez was sacked has effectively all been spent on andy carroll - all other transfers have been financed by sales.

A couple of weeks back and it may well have changed but there was a table of average ages for the teams which played in game 2 we came 2nd youngest I think or maybe third i cant remember....very close to United either who won it.
Those teams posted up earlier do put it into sharp contrast, IF those boys can settle we have really done well

There arent many players like Suarez and Gerrard, but i reckon our best 11 WITHOUT either player would win most games.
Its a massively improved matchday squad and you will be looking at a bench along the lines of
:Kuyt, Maxi, Skrtel, Kelly, Henderson, Doni and Coates each week is a world away from benches with N'gog, Jovanovich, The Greek and Degen on it.
Even Doni is a really good keeper.

I'd say so. Notwithstanding the Meiriles sale, our squad has pretty much been restructured and transformed. It's leaner, younger, has more depth, a bench that can change games, a good British base, more pace and quality with a sprinkling of latin know-how.
Our whole is definitely greater than the sum of its parts, with KK at the helm it can over-achieve.
