a) Henry VIII was not a medieval king if you want to think in terms of periodisation: with the Reformation and rise of Humanist thought this is generally considered the early modern period.

b) Of course there had always been punishments for those suspected of witchcraft (long predating Henry VIII) but proper witch hunting (with a witch finder general and such) and the prosecution of witches in a wide systematic way was a Jacobean phenomenon.

My Dads bigger than yours.

I think Mystic's line about Henry VII passing the witchcraft act is the most transparently google-checked post I've ever seen.

Yeh, I googled it. I have always associated Henry VIII and Witchcraft though, I swear thats what they taught us at school.

He's probably right in this case, but that Jay characters a right bullshitting cunt.

He's waited until every reputable LFC source in the media has said it's almost there, then has claimed the deal is done. Bravo. If Clyne signs he'll say he knew it before anyone else, with absolutely nothing to show he actually did. And people throughout twitter will laud him as some sort of amazing source.

I don't doubt some people out there who aren't journalists may have sources - normally players - but you can very easily pretend to be an 'ITK' and get away with it due to the amount of frothing idiots scouring twitter for transfer news.

A lot easier to get than an actual signing. I also saw correct line ups put out earlier than him so he may well have just been following whoever was stood on the bin for the training matches.

Yep. He follows a fairly consistent method in terms of signings - he claims we're 'interested' in players that have been linked to us, paying attention on what the source of the link is. He doesn't ever have any information before the fact of price, wage, contract length, any granularity of detail. He remains vague up to the point of when the story starts to filter down to the Echo, Telegraph, Guardian etc - specifically with stories filed by Barrett, Bascombe et al - and then claims the deal is done before the papers - with their specific deadlines and need to write more in an article than just #Clyne #LFC #Done - can file.

It's fucking cack. Like I said, I can buy that individuals on twitter know players. But players themselves will know very little. If an ITK on twitter tweets a story they genuinely know stuff about - like when someone knew Bogdan's family or something and was first to the punch on that deal - they get all these retweets and mentions and then as a result of all the attention start to try and act like they know all this other stuff as well.

There's no fucking way Jay or anyone else can know all the stuff they claim to know without working in a fairly well-connected part of the industry - ie for a stable of agents or for a well-sourced media outlet. And if he did, he'd get hounded out for continually leaking shite on twitter. Like I say, I don't doubt there is stuff he does know, but there is no way he knows anywhere near as much as he claims to.

Echo:

[article]Southampton have accepted Liverpool ’s improved offer of £12.5million for right-back Nathaniel Clyne.

The England international has been granted permission to discuss personal terms with the Reds and undergo a medical when he returns from his holiday in America.

Clyne is expected to put pen to paper on a five-year contract and will become Liverpool’s sixth signing of the summer following the completion of deals for James Milner, Danny Ings, Adam Bogdan, Joe Gomez and Roberto Firmino.

Boss Brendan Rodgers had pinpointed the 24-year-old defender as the ideal replacement for Glen Johnson, who has left the club as a free agent.

Liverpool’s initial offer of £10million was rejected last month but they returned with a higher bid and Saints have agreed to do business.

Clyne was down to the final year of his existing contract and had made it clear he wouldn’t sign an extension.

His heart has been set on a move to Liverpool and Southampton had already prepared for his exit by signing full-back Cedric Soares from Sporting Lisbon.[/article]

My best bit of ITK knowledge ever was when my mate who's a friend of Gerrard told me that when they'd asked Rafa what they were going to do about Alonso leaving he'd said that he'd already put a deal in place with an Italian kid who was going to be 'better than Alonso', but wouldn't say who it was.

Ladies and Gentlemen, may I introduce to you, Alberto Aquilani.

Won't we be laughing come transfer deadline day when all these cheques bounce.
