Re: Liverpool bid to land Hamburg striker Elijero Elia for £5m in January

As I've said, I don't know much about him other than youtube and what I've read. The youtube wasn't overly impressive and what I've read isn't that encouraging. I'll hold out until I see him play. Hopefully he'll be better than what we have, which shouldn't be too hard.

Better than me? Shounds unlikely.

Re: Liverpool bid to land Hamburg striker Elijero Elia for £5m in January

It would also be a bonus for him to come to a club where there are already a couple of Dutch players to help him settle.

Clip looks good, hope he is the real deal.

*excited*

Yeah, Kuyt and Babel looking and playing shit next to him will certainly make him look better by comparison and give him confidence.

He was apparently let go from Ajax for his attitude. Yeah, of course nobody would care if he turned out great, but having if having an attitude problem is enough to get you let go from a club, then it could be a real problem for us. It's not called an attitude problem for no reason.
Come on. We are (seemingly)signing an exciting winger we have all been craving for, I'll worry about any attitude problems if it actually becomes a problem at our club.
...And surely we can recoup alot of the fee if it does end up being a problem due to his age. Anelka had well-documented attitude problems prior to his move to us, but from what Carra, Stevie and pretty much everyone said, he just kept himself to himself and hadn't a bad word to say about him.

Re: Liverpool bid to land Hamburg striker Elijero Elia for £5m in January

Translation of the report from the Hamburger Morgenpost. Seems quite speculative - nowhere does it pass it off as a done deal

The man is curt. Maybe because he does not want to talk too. "Ask the head of motorsport," said Elia Eljero succinctly when he was asked about the trip from Dubai to his future at HSV. It just Elia knows probably more than any other.

Elia and Liverpool - what's going on? Probably a lot, gives you the rumors from the island of faith. On New Year's Day, the 2-1 against Bolton, the Vice-World Champion to have been seen in the stands of Anfield Road. Elia and Liverpool were the largely agreed that it is, the conclusion of the deal a question of days.

When Elijah drove up on Sunday at 12.20 clock to meet at the Imtech Arena, hooked to the MOPO. Mr. Elia, were you on Saturday in Liverpool? "Sorry," said the Dutchman, "I must now, in the cabin." Aha ... Aha ...

Fact: A switch to the "Reds" would make sense. There could Elia replace his extremely unhappy countryman Ryan Babel. intended as a substitute for Edin Dzeko, whose 35-million-euro transfer to Manchester City are close to completion - takes the 24-year-olds turn it reportedly to VfL Wolfsburg.

Liverpool, Wolfsburg - or at least the HSV? On Elia, exciting days. His coach Armin Veh said though: "I expect that we will make no one." But a clear denial sounds different. Veh knows the business - and his club. HSV needs money, at least 15 million euros would be well to Elia in it. An amount that both Liverpool, could lift and Wolfsburg.

Once Dubai and back - for the desert trip Elia could be his last mission with the HSV. On Saturday, the Hamburg test in the People's Park against Ajax Amsterdam. Then if Elijah will still be here?

Re: Liverpool bid to land Hamburg striker Elijero Elia for £5m in January

Reinhardt: "There are no requests or offers for Elia existing. Neither from Wolfsburg nor from Liverpool."

Re: Liverpool bid to land Hamburg striker Elijero Elia for £5m in January

The lad has some pretty impressive clips from what I have seen on Youtube.

Regardless of whether he does it all the time, the main thing is that he can obviously do it, and I cant imagine any of Dirk, Cole or Maxi showing such pace and skill.

Also, the prospect of having a quick and tricky winger is always enticing.

As for Babel, I still think he should be playing up front with Torres.

Assuming we get him, I would love to see an attack like this

Torres Babel

Elia Gerrard Meireles Johnson

or with Gerrard off Torres, with Lucas in midfield with Meireles.

I know nobody plays Johnson at RM, but he played there for Pompey and I'd like to see him get a run of games there. Get Kelly in at right back too.

I think our team would be transformed with that.

Re: Liverpool bid to land Hamburg striker Elijero Elia for £5m in January

Damp squib.

Re: Liverpool bid to land Hamburg striker Elijero Elia for £5m in January

Johnson is scared to cross. And when he does it's quite erratic and shit. Not a good winger

Re: Liverpool bid to land Hamburg striker Elijero Elia for £5m in January

His runs down the right are our main threat down that wing. I'm sure his crossing could easily improve once he gets used to the role

I'll wait and see. Looks no different than Babel
You are joking arnt you? I mean it is only a youtube clip and can be misleading. But in that clip he LOOKS 1000 times better than Babel. At least.
Babel would have a decent tube clip too Jack. Amazing what a bit of editing can do.
Exactly. He looks very one footed like Babel

Re: Liverpool bid to land Hamburg striker Elijero Elia for £5m in January

Not to convinced this move will go a head after comments by HSV sporting director Reinhardt.

Still, anything could happen.

as an attacking fullback surely his crossing ability should be quite practised. Also, i think johnson works best when coming into an attack late when the opposition defence don't expect it.

I'm not a Johnson fan, but this thing about his crossing is neither here nor there (and I don't here many people lauding it anyway).

Crossing is largely overstated anyway, you just want a player who will cause problems from outwide, and at his best he's capable of it, he doesn't have to be Beckham, he's got enough skill on the deck to cause problems in other ways. I've never really noticed Ryan Giggs' crossing as being the trademark of his game, his ability to put players on the backfoot and get in behind was always his greatest strength, like many wide players.

can't agree with this,. The ideal winger can do what johnson does, but can cross as well. It's well and good johnson running at a defender, but all hes going to do is cut inside. As a full back i've no problem with this as he'll have a winger to his right who he can spread the ball wide to. Giggs can whip in a tremendous ball, but he also can cause the defenders to be unsettled with quick feet and movement. He's an intelligent, talented footballer is giggs in many ways, and will be lauded for years to come. Johnson i'm not sure about

Re: Liverpool bid to land Hamburg striker Elijero Elia for £5m in January

I don't rate him anyway Fabio, I think he needs to grow a brain before he's capable of being a consistent performer and I think he's a fucking shit defender, I just haven't heard many people banging on about his crossing ability.

It's my dfence why i don't think he'd be a good winger. And when it was initially mentioned people said he could. I'm just still waiting. I think he's overrated myself and i'd much rather have arbeloa back. Solid. Dependable. Could play both sides. Rarely fucked up. A simple footballer but a very good one

Agreed, I think he was a great fullback 🙁

Re: Liverpool bid to land Hamburg striker Elijero Elia for £5m in January

I think it's simple - Johnson is dangerous around the box.

So let's keep him nearer the opposition's than ours.

Kelly is a decent right back and defensively better than GJ. And in the absence of any better options at RW then yeh I'd give Glen a run out there.

Re: Liverpool bid to land Hamburg striker Elijero Elia for £5m in January

Particularly if we continue with a 4-4-2, because Kuyt has never coped well playing on the right side of a 4-4-2.
I'd sooner see him up front with Torres.

Re: Liverpool bid to land Hamburg striker Elijero Elia for £5m in January

Most modern wingers don't cross anyway. They cut inside, and leave it to the fullback to cross. And Kelly's crosses have looked pretty good so far.

As with playing Gerrard and Ming in CM, playing Kelly at RB and Magic at RM seems one of the most obvious potential solutions to our problems, so it's a bit of a brainfuck that we haven't tried either.

Yep, he was. And we sold him for what £4m? A 25yo Spanish international to Real Madrid and we get £4m, we are only ones capable of that.
