Fee sounds too low to be true. :🙂

LIVERPOOL have entered the race for highly-rated Holland forward Eljero Elia.

Winger Elia, a member of the Dutch World Cup squad in South Africa, wants out of Hamburg and Liverpool’s director of football strategy, Damien Comolli, hopes his good relations with the German side can help broker a deal.

Hamburg want around £5million for the player, who is rumoured to be the subject of two offers from Italian giants Juventus. Liverpool would take Elia on loan or on a permanent basis, but their valuation is far closer to £3m.

Former Reds boss Rafa Benitez was interested in taking Elia to Anfield during his reign, but a deal could not be struck.

Now, though, manager Roy Hodgson and Comolli are more confident a deal can be done when the January window opens.

His goal away at Mönchengladbach this week:

Re: Liverpool bid to land Hamburg striker Elijero Elia for £5m in January

5 mill sounds like the biggest bollocks of all time though..

Re: Liverpool bid to land Hamburg striker Elijero Elia for £5m in January

is he that much different from Babel? Dunno, not impressed by him but hey, for 5 million (if true), it's a good squad depth pick up ...

Re: Liverpool bid to land Hamburg striker Elijero Elia for £5m in January

He's nothing like Babel mate. He's very very good. Been injured this season, but is on his way back now.

Good ol' Comolli with his contacts!!

Havent seen enough of this guy but I remember his name coming up before.

Re: Liverpool bid to land Hamburg striker Elijero Elia for £5m in January

Ive liked him for a while...is his low fee due to a contract running out or something? im too lazy to check anywhere!!

Re: Liverpool bid to land Hamburg striker Elijero Elia for £5m in January

He signed last season, so that is out of the question. They paid close to 9 mill aswell.

Comolli was quoted today in saying that we shouldn't expect to much in january, but that they would sign players that could be good for us in the next 4-5 years. In other words some youngish players.

Back in Germany, he's been linked with a move to Wolfsburg, with McClaren, his former manager at Twente said to be a keen admirer. Original articled states that Juve made a bid of €12m in the summer but was rebuffed and Hamburg were looking for a figure closer to €20m back then. However, Wolfsburg will try to tempt them with a bid closer to the former amount than the latter.

Hamburg striker Eljero Elia says he is unsure over his future, as he has been linked with a possible move to Wolfsburg.

Elia has been on target for Die Rothosen in their last two fixtures
, and wants to continue to keep on scoring.

"I do not know whether I will continue with HSV or not," the 23-year-old revealed to Hamburger Morgenpost. "You have to ask chairman Bernd Hoffmann.

"Two goals in one week is good for me, but also for the team. We will have to see in January what the outcome is."

Elia joined the club in July 2009 for €8.9 million from Twente, signing a five-year contract.

If Van Claren thinks that Babel will get him as many goals as Dzeko has, then his tenure at Wolfsburg will be a short one.

Re: Liverpool bid to land Hamburg striker Elijero Elia for £5m in January

Maybe he thinks Babel will play better under a Dutch manager and is willing to take the risk ?

Joke. Right?

Re: Liverpool bid to land Hamburg striker Elijero Elia for £5m in January

Wolfsburg's DOF Dieter Hoeness was from Hamburg and during his time there signed quite a couple of Dutch players. Might be the one behind the interest in Babel?

Could be because they have very good players. World cup final as well as doing well in U20s!

This story is in the German papers and is doing the rounds on twitter.

Looks like we actually could be in for him.

Would be a fantastic signing.

He looked the real deal during the WC but I haven't seen Hamburg play in a while (nor him). How's he been faring of late?

Re: Liverpool bid to land Hamburg striker Elijero Elia for £5m in January

Have never seen him play, anyone fancy giving a brief description of him?

Do we think he has the attributes to make it in the PL?

He's most certainly got fast feet and like to take on his marker. Strange hair as well.

Haven't seen him play much apart from during the WC and he was after all mostly used as a sub downthere.

Re: Liverpool bid to land Hamburg striker Elijero Elia for £5m in January

Fee quoted on Twitter is €15 mil. Never seen the kid play.
