Back to Hicks.

I have until recently had some sympathy with H&G, and not all the ills that have befallen us are due to their ownership as he points out, and the world financial crisis came bang at the wrong time.
Still I think it is a bit much for him to sit there and tell us all that the problems with the finances have been grossly exaggerated, if all was so rosy why did he sign away his rights in April.
As we have seen this week he has the sharpest law people available to him and unless he was in the shit with the funds and RBS there is no way he would have agreed to those terms.
I would not lose too much sympathy with Hicks , as I said in a previous post he has made his fortune in leveraged buy-outs and gambling with investments , some you win and some you lose, in this case he lost.
He was right about one thing his communication with the fans was poor, if he wanted to present his case he should have done so when things were happening.

If he had the money, he could have just paid off the debt before signing his rights away.

It was more a case of really bad management of assets and wealth on his part that lead to him losing the Club.

If he had at least kept his promises or avoided making false promises, he would not have had the fans turning on him, as they have done. Believe me, he would have been able to make a better case in the court if all the other stake-holders in the club were not 100% against him.

He would be better off regrouping and focusing his attention on rebuilding his personal assets and wealth which seems to have taken a massive hit from all ends.

Quiffing a little,

but I read an article that spoke of how over the last two weeks, Broughton's shown a business mind that has not really been seen in dealings within the football world. I agree, and I think if we could do everything we could to convince him to take a position in the club, it could be the best signing NESV makes for some time.

Well after waking up with a horrible hangover, my first thoughts were on Liverpool. It feels great that Hicks and Gillett have gone, especially in these circumstances. No more than they deserve. Hopefully the takeover will give a bit of a feelgood factor throughout the whole club, including the players. Isn't this what they said they wanted all along?

Not sure if we will win tomorrow, I'd like to be optimistic but I can see a drab 0-0. Even though most want Roy sacked at this stage, I dont think it will enter Henry's mind just yet. Wouldn't be the best start to owning Liverpool, regardless of on field performances. I think he will give him at least 5 premiership games to see how things go.

Broughton's now shown everybody why he's a big beast in the business world and I'd be happy to see him stick around at LFC, but I'm afraid he's already ruled it out.

I agree with bunny, this thread has been the best of scm i would even consider shutting down the movie one.

Also arsenal made lots of money from selling highbury and the flats around there. Would that be an option for us, as in do we still own that area and we brough the houses around the area also. If there is an option to redevelop anfield then why not if it's not an option then fine a new stadium. It's all about competing with match day revenue and using that to benefit the club with more money.

The difference forArsenal is some of those flats sold for millions you'd struggle to give them away in the shithole of Anfield.

Unfortunately, Asim, the land around Anfield is virtually worthless. The other side of Walton Breck Road from Anfield Stadium is just street after street of empty terrace houses, all boarded up and awaiting a redevelopment that I probably won't see in my lifetime. >🙁

Mate, prices in London are a bit different to those in Anfield.

Houses go on sale here at £40K, a years rent in a lot of London places.

I get that prices in London are higher than Liverpool(40k flipping heck) but then the stadium would also cost less imagine?

Houses in Anfield have gone for a few grand & literally are unsellable at present.

As Redshrek said, you simply couldn't give them away. If it werent for the club the land would be completely worthless.

I doubt if a major capital project like that has any significant regional variations

(apart from the land price obv)

One very large advantage we do have over Arsenal is the sheer number of fans worldwide we have, if NESV can produce a successful team on the pitch in the near future their is no reason why that international fanbase can't keep growing and possibly providing us with revenues unavailable to Arsenal in terms of sponsorships tv rights etc.... I always rather liked the Look of them little terraced houses around Anfield myself ... Owning one was one of my dreams as a teenager OOT going the game. Shame nobody looked after them, mind you there is no point after the scouse diaspora.

One of the ESPN journalists with links to Boston has said that those inside the Red Sox are telling him that Henry thinks he has bought a billion dollar business for 400 million dollars.

Great idea Bunny.

I'm just really glad the Yanks are gone and the fact that Hicks has taken a massive hit financially makes me happy, very happy. They did arrive with great CV's and talked the talk, I for one was caught hook, line and sinker. Time will tell if we have traded up or if it will be much of the same but the signs are good and I am optimistic.

The squad needs a lot of work/money and there will be question marks if Roy is the manager to be trusted with that cash. I am one of Roy's few defenders left on here but I really wouldn't feel comfortable if he was entrusted with mega cash. We need to identify who we want to lead us long term and THEN let him build. But all that is all for the future, right now let us be happy and in agreement that those fucking cunts got what they deserved and we can all look forward to getting back up where we belong.

The sad thing is that they didn't. I remember googling them at the time and being concerned at the lack of their personal wealth. And the Corinthians debacle was a massive stain on Hicks resume.

If he succeeds in restoring a bit of success to the club, he's probably right.

My turn to finalise my input on this thread:

the whole thing has been an unmitigated disaster, which could have been averted. However in this dimension the avoidable was unavoidable. Initially I liked h & g, they came in making all the right noises and made the fans proud to be a supporter again. I didnt understand the business of it all so as far as I was concerned happy days.
As time progressed however my trust and happiness were gradually destroyed. The klinsman debacle, the stadium issue, weak transfer budgets, all these and more became pressing issues which undermined the players, the manager and the fans.
The increasing debts became crippling and I began to understand the idiocy of my optimism. The club could no longer function and we would struggle for success.
I wanted us sold quick as the owners were strangling my love for the club. Its unfair to lay all the blame with them, but problems at the top trickle all the way to the bottom.

I'm happy its over temporarily at least. Sadly we're in too much of a state now. Hopefully we'll be back on track in 2 years

I'm concerned about our new owners because with the deadline pending, I think we would have accepted anything really. But they do appear to have at least a decent track-record, which is reassuring to a point.

Let's hope they deliver.

You know what ? "What? - You stupid fucking baldy old twat".......

OK I will tell you.

People keep telling us we were has-beens, historical old farts that had had our day, we were a spent force.
Maybe so. but strange, as it miught be we have the main news solid for three days and the best part of a week, BBS TV & radio, Sky News and Sports and every red top in the land, and every phone in program that there is.
People feel that our reputation has been tarnished having beee dragged through the courts... I say it has been enhanced, I say it shows what a huge club be actually still are. I doubt there is any other club that would have taken such a high profile over an ownership issue than us...OK maybe one.
John Henry and NESV must now be shitting themselves and realise this week more than last what they have bought into....... a slumbering monster.

It looked a bit piss-poor at some points and seemed there was little or no interest in a faded / jaded club - not so.

All this court room drama has far from dragged us through the gutter, it has shown us what a pearl we really are.
It has given me a lift and I suspect I am not alone

Henry was cautious on the thorny subject of the redevelopment of Anfield, although he all but ruled out the prospect of ground-sharing with Merseyside rivals Everton.

'We are not going to make any stadium statements,' said Henry. 'Ground-sharing is very controversial. From what I have heard, it doesn't look appealing to many people.'

Great post Vlad.

ps: Had some eastern european booze the other day called Vlad. Of course none of us could resist slipping into our worst Transylvanian accent, "I VILL DRINK YOUR VLAD! MUHAHAHAHAH!". Very hilarious at the time, and the joke never seemed to go old. Not bad stuff either.
